The kitchen was modest. Tiled, clean, organized and standing in it was enough to wonder whether it was actually January and not July.

Theodore opened the fridge, took out two eggs and set to making breakfast. As he did so he allowed himself to think of the happenings of the previous 2 weeks. The said two weeks had been marked unique when he first embraced Leticia Cleopatra Ford.

The very same Leticia Cleopatra Ford whose kitchen he was now standing in.

The very same Leticia Cleopatra Ford, with whom he was dangerously in love.

The Leticia Cleopatra Ford, who had not clouded his better judgment, oh no, had trampled on his ability to think.

Leticia Cleopatra Ford who had been his student nearly eight years ago.

Leticia Cleopatra Ford who he knew was his as he was hers.

He moved to the drawers and opened them trying to find a spatula when instead he saw a leather-bound journal. From the journal, a photograph was sticking out. He picked it out and examined it under the kitchen light.

Letty. Standing with another man, younger than Theodore, much younger. They were holding hands, both smiling at the camera. Her brother?
He turned the picture over,

Leticia and Sebastian,

The happy couple,

The date on the photograph was the 8th of July of that year
