CHAPTER SIX

I shyly glance over at Billy when he pulls into my driveway, my hair a disheveled mess and my cheeks flushed. We had made three stops before making it home due to me getting sick.

He looks at me, his expression a mix of concern and exhaustion. He keeps one hand on the steering wheel, and the other draped across his lap.

"Thank you for what you did tonight." I start to say, my words still a little slurred. "I shouldn't have let myself walk out with him."

I reach for the door handle, stopping when I feel his hand touch my forearm. Taken aback, I look at him with a raised brow. He flicks his tongue out over his lips, meeting my gaze.

"If he ever messes with you again I'll break his neck." he whispers, voice low and rough.

I swallow hard and nod my head quickly, a soft shade of pink dusting over my pale cheeks.

He let's go of my arm, and I hesitate for a moment before opening the door, thanking him one last time before climbing out. I know what happens when I open the door; my parents will be waiting inside, angry and ready to give the longest lecture.

"Where have you been?" my mom asks in a hushed whisper, frantically making her way towards me when I enter the dimly lit family room.

"I was at a party with Jonathan, mom. I'm okay." I start to say, but she quickly holds up a hand.

"Do you realize what time it is? Your curfew was nearly two hours ago." she snaps, placing her hands on her hips. "I called Jonathan, and he told me he couldn't find you." she adds, and I feel my stomach lurch. Oh how I hope he wasn't too worried.

"I'm really sorry, but can we please talk about this in the morning? It wasn't the best night." I say softly with a frown, and her expression changes.

"Well... alright, just get to bed." she says before motioning for me to head upstairs.

I don't argue, quickly turning and rushing up to my room as fast as my legs would carry, quietly shutting the door behind me so I wouldn't wake anyone up. I go to my bed and fall back, moaning as my back hits the soft comforter. I close my eyes, replaying the night in my head over and over again. I sigh, rubbing my face before kicking off my shoes. My thoughts soon fall on Billy, and how he'd stuck up for me tonight. Maybe he isn't so terrible. Maybe....
