"Why isn't she up yet."
"I don't know ma, I don't know"

My eyes fluttered open, readjusting to the light. Looking around I saw my mom who was speaking to Milan.

"Ma" I spoke gaining their attention. My throat was dry. "Can I have some water." My mom poured some water in a cup handing it to me.

Sipping the water I looked at my mom who had tears in her eyes.

"Ma, why you crying?" I asked.

"You didn't regain consciousness right away and nobody knew why... I'm ok now since you're up."

"Was I out for a long time?" I asked.

"A few hours, we was worried." Milan cut in.

"Where's Damien.." I asked, remembering why I fainted in the first place.

"Resting, he got out of surgery.. the bullet went through his side and lodged in." Milan said, "Jalil and Rakim is in there now. TeeTee, DeeDee went to get everyone some food. Lyn just went to Rakim, we were taking turns in here with you." She finished.

"I want to see him. Take me to him." I said getting up, too fast, my head immediately started to pound.

"Faith, chill drink some water." My mom said pouring me another cup of water. I suddenly felt tired.

"I'm gonna take a nap..." I said, my eyes slowly closing.

2 Days

That's how long I've been sitting here waiting for Damien to wake up. The doctors said he would wake up eventually, his body was healing. Within 2 days, I've met his parents and gotten discharged. Damien's parents were away when they heard. They were in Santo Domingo and got on the next available flight back to NY. They got here yesterday morning. When they walked in I was the only one here, sleeping on the chair cuddled up next to him. The doctors would only let me stay if I said I was his girlfriend. I went home for a few hours the day I woke up, to pack a few things like my laptop, chargers, clothes and toiletries. I've been working from this hospital, for two days. Rescheduling appointments for myself as well as being in phone conferences. My mom came last night to bring a few more things from my apartment as well as bring a home cooked meal.

It was currently 12pm, the nurses were in here checking on Damien and cleaning him up. After they left Jalil and Rakim came in.

"He woke up yet?" Rakim asked.

I shook my head rubbing circles on Damiens hand hoping for some type of movement. Bully walked over to his other side and started talking to him.

"You needa wake up already nigga, you stink and ya hair gettin matted. Shittin me" he said causing me to laugh lightly.

It's crazy, three days ago we were mad at each other barely speaking. And just that quick I almost lost him for good.

When you take things in life for granted, the things you are granted get taken.

You ever been in a situation and quotes related to that situation start popping up everywhere? That's what's been happening since I woke up. And they all had the same underlying message. Take nothing for granted. As quickly as you get something, that's how quickly you'll lose it. That refers to any situation, relationships, materialistic things, gifts, fame, success. Anything.

"Stop crying, beautiful" I heard a cracky voice.

Looking up Damien was looking back at me with a small smile on his face. With tears falling freely down my face I froze. I couldn't move.

"Damien don't do that shit again nigga, ya pops and moms is back they coming later. Imma go call them. Love you bro real shit." Ace said smiling walking out.
