"Is she going to be okay?"
"She should be fine. If not for her everyone would've died. But that bubble and powder mixture made sure the bomb didn't go as far as it should've. She's our saviour."
"What about the others? That man and woman?"
"They perished."

I try opening my eyes but immediately close them again. The bright white room makes my eyes sore just looking at it.
I try sitting up but strong hands keep me down. I look up into blue eyes filled with relief.
"You're awake! Thank goodness. You'd been out for so long I thought, and everyone else thought... maybe..." I chuckle quietly due to my voice still being raw.
"What... happened?" Kaiden smiles at me sadly.
"Thanks to you, Gerald is now dead and Aven is gone. Everyone is safe. The bomb didn't explode as much as it could've so many people were saved. A few suffered minor injuries from the shrapnel but most are just cuts and bruises." I sigh and relax. Everyone was safe and that was good enough for me.
"Everything went as I hoped." I look at Kaiden, smiling. Bu he doesn't return it.
"Not everything. It... was on the news yesterday. Aven, he... commited suicide. He left a note addressed to you." Kaiden pulls out a letter with my name on the front. I gulp and try to keep the tears at bay.
Aven may not have been the best friend in the world, but he and I were still friends. He didn't deserve to die. I felt numb and I didn't know what to do with the news.
"I-I can't read that. Not yet. Aven was my friend. I... might need some time." Kaiden nods and puts the letter back in his pocket.
"I'll have it if you want it. I don't trust the doctors enough to not read it and I'm guessing it's personal. Aven isn't the only news either. They found Gerald's body, pierced with shrapnel. It was burnt and just awful. So Gerald is dead." I nod.
"What about the other person? I saw someone attack Gerald before the bomb went off. They... saved my life." I fear the answer, knowing that if Gerald died that the other person probably died too. Just looking at Kaiden's face tells me the answer. Tears immediately start to pour down my face.
"I didn't even get to thank them. They raced in to help me and lost their life in the process. Do the police know who it was?"
"Alex... there's no easy way to tell you. The person was... Ms Maggie." The tears don't increase but they don't decrease either. The numb feeling had never left but now it felt stronger. I didn't know what to do. She'd saved my life after everything that had happened.
"No. It must've been someone else. It can't have been her." I deny even though I know deep in my heart Kaiden is right.
"I'm so sorry Alex." He wraps his arms around me but I barely feel it. My whole body and brain are too numb.
"Alex?" I look over Kaiden's shoulder to see Jordan standing in the doorway. He looks exhausted and overall, awful.
"Come in Jordan." Kaiden lets go and leaves. I know he won't go far but enough to give us space.
"You look horrid Jordan. You need sleep." He shakes his head.
"I can't. I have a nagging thought and... I need someone to talk to. But everyone else didn't know Ms Maggie like you did so I knew it had to be you." I nod and pat the bed, inviting him to sit down. Once he's settled, I gently take his hand.
"What's wrong?"
"I-I feel like maybe Ms Maggie went out to save you because it was...", he gulps and looks at me with tears in his eyes. "I feel like it was a suicide mission. Like, she planned on dying and went because it was a way out..." Jordan sobs as I comfort him as best I can. Being attached to drips and other medical things makes it hard but I push them away and focus on Jordan.
"No, I don't think she would do that. There's no reason for her to. We talked and she never said anything about suicide. I know it might have been buried down deep but the fact she never mentioned it accidentally to me shows that she had no intention of dying. I think she helped to avenge her brother and to help. But we'll never know, so there's no reason to keep fretting." I knew my words probably sounded not very encouraging but Jordan nodded.
"My brother... he..." He started crying and I hold him as best I can.
"Shhh. You don't have to tell me yet. Take your time. We have time." I can feel him nod and smile sadly.
After everything that had happened, it would take some time to heal.
