"That's the 20th person you have rejected!" The king furiously exclaimed as he entered the courtroom.
"And what about it, father?" Princess Seolhee retorted, distaste on her voice. "It means that you are turning down opportunities for this kingdom and putting our name in shame!" The King said, face turning red with anger. Seolhee wanted to laugh. But when she heard the last few words coming out of her father's mouth, her eyes widened and scoffed.
"In shame? The only thing that I did is to turn them down! It's not like I'm sleeping with numerous people like that Prince Jeon Jungkook. Now that's a shame." She shouted back, making sure to emphasis the prince's name.
A name she found disgusting.
The news about him sleeping with numerous people has been known almost worldwide and has been named as the nation's 'playboy' but he doesn't even seem to care. She couldn't imagine the headache Prince Jungkook brought to his family with that. And she certainly didn't want to be involved with that mess. That's why she avoided everything involving him.
"Father, enough with this." Taehyung spoke, his deep voice echoing through the room. He was there the whole time even during the courting process of his sister and watched Seolhee, yet again, reject another suitor.
After staying silent for a while, he finally mustered up the courage to utter a few words. He certainly did felt the tension between the two, so he did what he could.
His father groaned in frustration, fingers on his temple as if he's trying to surpress a headache. Then, he spoke. "You leave me no choice, Seolhee. I've warned you numerous times and you never listened."
Seolhee pondered over her father's words for a moment, and so did her brother, his confused look obvious on his face as he looked at him, waiting for an explaination.
"I and the King of the Southern kigdom have come to an agreement to have you engaged with his son, Jeon Jungkook." Their father finally spoke, both of their eyes widening at the sudden revelation.
And Seolhee was absolutely outraged.
The reason why she rejected every suiter she had is because she wanted to be free.
Free from everything she wants and not be a royal baby maker.
"You did what?!" Seolhee exclaimed as she abruptly stood up from her throne, fists clenched by her sides. "You left me no choice, Seolhee. And this is important, for the kingdom. You are aware that there is a brewing tension between our kingdom and theirs. So we came up to an agreement. If this wedding goes on successfully, our kingdoms will unite and there will be no bloodshed."
"Father, you can't be serious." Taehyung then spoke up, standing beside his sister. "Apparently, I am son. And as the heir to the throne, I expect you to understand as to why I did this. And as for you..." his father trailed off as he faced his daughter who's tears are silently flowing out of her eyes, "I expect for you to cooperate with this engagement because in a few days, we will be staying at their place for a month so that you can, well, get to know your future husband." He continued, his expression remained hard and apathetic despite seeing his daughter cry.
Seolhee felt as if the last words her father said was some sort of mockery. And as soon as her father left the courtroom without saying another word, she broke down. More tears spilling out of her as his older brother pulled her into a hug, not bothering if his top was getting soiled with tears. He rubs comforting circles on her back, whispering words of comfort over and over again. He can't help but feel hurt too. Seeing his sister like this is something he'd rather not see.
"You're going to be okay, Seolie. Besides, I'll always love you. Always." Taehyung coos as he hugs his sister tighter.
Their father wasn't like this before. He was known to be a happy and joyful man. And they used to be close. Not until their mom died from a disease right after she gave birth to Seolhee.
And with this, his father blamed Seolhee for the death of his wife, their mother. And ever since then, they drifted apart from each other. More distant than the day before.
"You're saying that it's going to be okay 'cuz you won't be marrying the nation's playboy." Seolhee said with a bitter chuckle, looking at his brother's eyes. Her brother sighed in return, fingers swiping the tears off of her face and tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "I'm sorry, Seolie." Taehyung said, sounding defeated. "If only there's something I can do about this, then you wouldn't have to marry and wouldn't have to be so far away from us, from me."
"Don't be sorry, brother." Seolhee said, cracking up a weak smile as she wiped the stray tears from her face. "Soon enough, you'll be the next king. King Kim Taehyung."
"And you'll be Queen Jeon Seolhee- ow!" Taehyung said with a playful chuckle, clutching his arm where his sister has hit him. "Yah, who said that's funny!" Her sister exclaimed, a smile starting to etch on her face.
"Jeon Seolhee." Taehyung continued to teased as he walked backwards, making faces to her sister. "Stop it, Tae!" Seolhee said as she follows him yet Taehyung still contined teasing her.
"Kim Taehyung, I swear to the gods above, if I catch you, I will kill you!" Seolhee said as she ran towards her brother whilst the latter ran away. This led them into a cat chase, both of them laughing and giggling, the staff of the palace looking at the bewildered as they pass.
These were the moments Seolhee cherishes and she knew that once she was wed to Jeon Jungkook, she will be away from her brother and the palace she once grew up in. But for now, she casts her fears aside and focus on one thing.
Catch Kim Taehyung and repeatedly hit his arm until it gets sore.
