"Well you look hideous." Lucius Malfoy, snorted as he spotted his best friend, Callisto, running late for breakfast.
"Oh shut your trap, will you, Lucius? The last time I was on time for breakfast was when I pulled an all-nighter." She scoffed while pulling her hair into a ponytail and sitting down next to him.
"Relax, Callisto. It's the best part of the day." Chin up, with a smirk on his stupid face, he looked the other way of her, purposely acting like mornings are the best things that ever happened to him.
He would always be like that, stubbornly going for the opposite of anyone's opinion of literally anything and everything. Although, he was still Callisto's best friend after all. She was used to his teasing, and certainly did not mind it that much either.
The breakfast food appeared on the long tables of the Great Hall, delicious foods popping out of thin air and making you drool by the time you land your hands on them. Callisto spotted one of her all time favorite foods, the mini glazed donuts, each and every one had the infamous Slytherin flag poked in it.
"Or maybe," Lucius started, as he chewed a couple more times before continuing to speak, "you were up with those deviants again. Sneaking off to the Gryffindor common room. Maybe that's why you're waking up so late."
"I wish that was the reason, Lucius-"
"Hey Mason!" Callisto heard loud, obnoxious shouts, instantly figuring out it was Sirius Black, but decided to ignore them. She hated being addressed by her surname.
"Your inarticulate friends are calling you." Lucius arrogantly whispered to her, fighting the urge to turn and give them the dirty looks.
"So I've heard. I do not plan on answering until quit calling me by my last name." she sassed, popping another one of those mini donuts in her mouth.
"How do you even eat sweet before savory?-"
"Callie!" She now recognized James' voice, and dramatically rolled her eyes before she turned their way to see what is going on.
"Yes?" Callisto sassed, again.
"We need a favor." James and Sirius looked at each other and then at her, with the most hideous grins on their faces she had ever seen.
"And what is that, if I dare asking?"
"Essays, of course." They both said in unison.
"No way, Remus is the smart cookie, I'm pretty sure he can manage-"
"He also said no- Cal, please! They're due tomorrow!" Sirius pleaded.
"Listen Sirius, by tomorrow, I can put together only one wonky essay, not two, alright?" She sighed in annoyance. It had been the fourth year since she has made friends with the boys, but they were never close enough. Although, being the good person she was, Callisto always helped them when in need.
"Brilliant!" James jumped into his seat. "Remus said he could only write one essay too!"
Remus looked up from his parchment, what it looked like, and gave all of them a shy affirmative smile. He must have been finishing up his own essay instead of eating.
"Fine, whatever, I will do it."
-----
"Are you really going to write a whole essay for that good for nothing delinquent?" Lucius put his book away, and shot Callisto the most stern look ever.
They were laying back in the Slytherin common room, on the comfortable velvet green couches. The mantelpiece was manifesting a green colored fire, which created a cold, but still cozy ambiance.
"Yes, really. Drop it Lucius, they're not that bad."
"They're hanging out with mudbloods-"
"They're nice people!"
"So now you think mudbloods are not so bad, huh?"
"I never said that!"
"You're hanging out with them, so that means something!"
"None of them is muggle born, Lucius!"
"But all of them are blood traitors!" He slammed his book on the wooden table between the two. Callisto looked at his angry expression in fear, not of what he could do, but of what he could become.
They both looked at each other and stayed silent for a while, before Callisto gathered her belongings and ran up to her dormitory.
-----
"We could write their essays together in the library, if you would like. Three hours before curfew, I will be there. Feel free to join me. -Remus" All the girls of her dorm looked up at Callisto, as one of them finished reading the note sent to her.
Moments before, a parchment shaped into a bird had flown into their dorm and on her bed, through the open window, when a roommate of hers had opened it and read it.
"Is there anything going on between you two?" Another one asked. Callisto nervously chuckled and hung my bag over her shoulder, heading to the door.
"What? No! We are just supposed to write essays for our dumb friends. Nothing more, nothing less." She grabbed the door handle, just before she remembered. "Hey, can you guys not tell anybody about this?"
"Why is it so secret?"
"It's not, I just feel like it's weird. People don't really need to know." She was about to head out when...
"Not even Lucius?"
Callisto froze for a moment, and without turning back to them, she continued her way out. "Especially not him." And with that, she closed the door behind her, sprinting down the stairs.
