I was totally exhausted. I dragged myself through the school day and to John’s house. Sure enough, there was a crimson red fence in front of it, kind of hard to miss. Another sure sign was all of Quadritz sitting on the front porch. I grabbed my bag and walked up to them.
“Hey”
“Hello, welcome to your first official practice.”
“Our first order of business is the song.” Scott said in an official-sounding voice.
We thought for a minute, and then Austin spoke up.
“I think we should do a song you wrote, Lauren.”
“I don’t know. I’ve never really shared them… at all.”
“There’s a first for everything. I think it would be cool and catch people’s attention.”
“Yeah, and it would be publicity. You don’t want your songs to be hidden. Wouldn’t you like to show the world who you really are?”
“I guess so.”
“Cool. Are there any ones that come to mind as the best?”
“Well, there is this one. I stayed up all night writing it.”
I pulled it out of my bag and handed it to Scott. He read it over and handed it to Kyle. After they’d all read through it, they just stared at me for a minute.
“You wrote this?!?!” Scott exclaimed.
“Yeah, I’ve always been good with putting my thoughts into songs.”
“I guess maybe! That’s amazing! I can see ANY big singer or band singing that. Wow.”
I gave them a shy smile.
“We better start practicing if we’re going to do this song justice. Lauren, would you mind singing a little so we can find out what it’s supposed to sound like?”
I got really nervous really quickly about singing in front of them, especially with a song that calls for such strong vocals. But, somehow, I mustered the courage and strength to sing it.
“Suddenly I can’t breathe and suddenly you are everything to me. All you are is everything I need. Suddenly all I want is everything that’s happening so suddenly”
Quadritz was, once again, impressed. This time, by my voice.
“I think we’ve found our song.”
I checked my watch. An hour had passed by.
“When are we gonna meet again?”
“We can do it at my house tomorrow. It’s the one with the big pine tree next door.”
“Cool.”
“We should get to know Lauren better before we go any further, though. We should do that tomorrow.”
“Okay. See you guys later.”
“Bye”
I grabbed my bag and went home. I walked home because, what the guys didn’t know, I lived right across the street. The rest of the evening went on as boring as ever. Except for the fact that my favorite show, the Sing Off, was on. The Sing Off is a competition between many acapella groups for a recording contract and $200,000, you know, the best show ever! I watched that until 10 and then went to bed. I stayed up a minute to write in my diary but soon fell fast into a much-needed sleep.
*Don't ya'll just adore my insanely creative Chapter names??? :P*
