That week seemed to fly by before we could even figure out our country and hip-hop songs. We finally decided on Wednesday to do “Just a Dream” by Nellie and “Ours” by Taylor Swift. All 5 of us agreed to, at least, not to have me sing the lead. We weren’t about to take the chance of me passing out again. Instead, I sang co-lead on “Ours.” That meant that Scott and I shared the solos. Scott sang the first and I sang the second. I could tell that Scott was a little nervous about singing directly “to” me. I had to admit, I was too. After all, I was singing a love song “to” a guy that I knew he had a crush on me but I didn’t like him that way. I did my best to brush it off, because I was just relieved to not be singing alone again.
Finally, Monday came. I was so glad to know that I’d gotten through the week without fainting again. We practiced and went to the show. Then, when they called our name, we went to the stage and sang. The hip-hop song went really well. We, including the judges, were really surprised at how well Kyle could rap. Then came our country song. We took the stage and sang our hearts out. The lyrics flowed perfectly with the choreography. In the last second, Scott took my hand. It took me b surprise and I almost jerked back. Thankfully, I caught myself before I did. After the song, I walked off stage and grabbed my notebook. While the guys made their way back to our box, I snuck away and slunk down into a corner. Before I realized it, I’d done two things. One, I filled up 4 pages of my notebook. Second, I realized it most likely meant nothing and he’d never bring it up again. Boy, was I wrong and I found that out a few minutes later once Scott found me.
“Hey Lauren. Um, well, let me cut to the chase. I know me grabbing your hand made you uncomfortable and I’m sorry.”
“No, don’t be. I was just shocked, I guess.”
There was a moment’s silence.
“Scott, listen. Kyle, well, he told me about the song.”
“What?!?! You know?!?!”
“Yeah, but I just wanted you know that I think of you as just a friend.”
“Yeah, I know. Um, I think they’re about to say who goes on to next week.”
“Okay.”
We went back up to our box and made it just in time. The last group had just finished.
“The first to groups safe are… the Infectorz and” we held our breath “CraZ LuV!”
We breathed a sigh of relief. There was only one more week before the finale and we did not want to be the group sent home.
“The other group who is still safe is… the BeatBusters! I’m sorry BOOMbox but you’ll have to sing your swan song.”
As BOOMbox sang their final song, we slipped out. We wanted to be absolutely ready for the last week the audience had to pick the winner. We had to totally nail it.
