I stayed up all night that night. Everything had to go according to plan. After all the guys were up and going, I casually prepared my plan.
“Hey ya’ll”
“Wassup?”
“Nothing”
“Cool”
“Oh yeah. There’s something I wanted to tell ya’ll. There’s this theatre that’s having several singers perform and I was wondering if ya’ll would like to go watch.”
“Sounds cool. When is it?”
“Today at 1. It’s at that theatre we drive past to get to the Sing Off stage.”
“Cool. You’re going right?”
“Ya I’ll be there but first I have to run some errands. So I’ll meet you there.”
“Okay. Do you need a ride?”
“No. I’ve already rented a car. I’ll see you there.”
“Okay. Bye. See ya.”
I got into the rental car and drove down to the theatre. I signed in and walked inside. I needed to start practicing because, if everything didn’t go perfectly, Scott might not have understood what I was saying. I practiced until 1 hit. Then, I sat down and stared into the audience.
“Hey everybody. I’m going to start off the show with a song I wrote for someone. I hope you enjoy.” I took a deep breath and started into the first solo.
I sit there watching you watch my every move
You look handsome and so magnificent but
I just blew you away because I didn’t expect what you
Had to say
So now I’ve gone and messed it all up
Left me hoping and praying
It’s not too late for you to let me back in
Or have I doomed us forever to be
Just Friends
I know I said that’s how I wanted it to be
Told you that what we have is what I wanted
I was blinded, can’t you see?
Just please tell me I haven’t
Gone and messed it all up
Left me hoping and praying
It’s not too late for you to let me back in
Or have I doomed us forever to be
Just Friends
I know I'm asking for a lot
For you to back up and reopen your heart
After all I put you through
I’m sorry I didn’t know
That what you are is all I’ve ever wanted
Have I gone and messed it all up
For you to leave me hoping and praying
It’s not too late for you to let me back in
Please tell me I haven’t gone and messed it all up
I don’t wanna be just friends
I don’t wanna be just friends
I don’t wanna be
Just Friends
The song ended with applause and I exited the stage. Once I got backstage, I quietly made my way to the audience seats. Just my luck, the only seat available was one really close to Scott. I decided to stand by the opposite wall instead.
After the show, I drove back to the hotel and went up to my room. I wanted to give Scott his room to think. Of course, I didn’t take into consideration the fact that Scott is a very talkative person. About 15 minutes after they got back, he texted me.
Nice song.
Thx
This is going to sound weird but was the song about me?
This is going to sound weirder but yes
I haven’t
You haven’t what?
Moved on
I stopped texting. A few minutes later, I somehow worked up the nerve to text back.
What now?
idk I’ve been asking Kyle what to do and he just left for pizza
wow Scott
I guess I should ask you to go out with me
If you did, maybe I’d say yes.
Will you go out with me?
Yes if
If what?
If no matter what happens, we’ll always be friends
deal
k
c u in a minute
y?
Pizza
Oh yeah
I put down my phone and grabbed a pillow. Then, I screamed into the pillow. Then my phone buzzed.
From: Kyle
Pizza at my room!
Ok. I’ll be right there
I stood up and went to Kyle’s room. Sure enough, all the guys were standing around the table, stuffing their mouths with pizza. I walked in and joined them. After we’d all eaten, we sat on the couches. I took my cell out of my pocket.
To: Scott
Have you told them?
No
Scott got the memo and spoke up.
“I have an announcement!”
“What?”
“Lauren and I are officially dating.”
Everyone’s jaw dropped besides Kyle’s.
“I knew it!!”
I rolled my eyes and Scott put his arm around me.
For once, everything felt right. Even though I wasn’t exactly sure how to “date.” Even though we were in the heat of the moment of the Sing Off with only us and the Infectorz left. I knew that joining the guys was the best decision I ever made. Everything was gonna be fine. I took a deep breath.
“So, we need to practice our Finale song.”
The guys half-heartedly groaned. I grinned and stood up.
“Shall we?”
They smirked and stood up.
We practiced for hours. We decided to do “So What” by P!NK. We did that because, even though it was a little rebellious, it was upbeat and you can’t help but smile when you’re listening to it. Plus, we could cut loose and just have fun.
