After a long ride from Gotham to Smallville, Damian was relieved to finally get out of the car and stretch. He could see cows in a pasture across the street from the Kent's farm. He sighed. 3 days.
"Damn it." He muttered, following his father to knock on the front door. Bruce was about to knock when Jon excitedly opened the screen door.
"Hey, D!" Jon said, with a zest that Damian was clearly lacking. "Welcome!" He looked down at Damian's suitcase. "I can take that for you." He offered.
"It's heavy." Damian replied, trying to stave off annoyance.
"I have super-strength." Jon shrugged.
"I'm fine." Damian repeated. Jon smiled.
"You're on the bottom bunk." Jon said. "I cleaned my room for once. I'm kind of messy." He laughed.
Damian rolled his eyes. "I know. We share a headquarter."
"Oh yeah-" Jon remembered.
Bruce and Damian had dinner at the Kent's house. Jon swallowed a bite of spaghetti. Bruce was leaving soon.
"So Dad, what are you going to do in Egypt?" Jon asked.
Clark smiled and took a sip of water. "I can't tell you but it will be exciting."
"Cool." Jon smiled.
"Father?" Damian asked.
Bruce raised his eyebrows. "What, Damian?"
"Can I come with you?"
"We've talked about this... NO."
Damian sighed and twirled spaghetti on his fork. "Fine."
They finished dinner and the boys rinsed the plates and loaded them into the dishwasher. Jon ran up the stairs and Damian followed. Jon pointed to the top drawer of his dresser. "I cleared out the top drawer for you." Jon smiled.
Don't be an ass. Damian thought- Dick had been helping him figure out friends. He sighed. "I suppose I should thank you." Damian said. He paused. "So thank you."
Jon smiled. "That's what friends are for."
Damian heard the engine start outside and watched as his father pulled out of the grassy part of the yard by the barn and turned down the gravel driveway. Lois, Jon's mother, came upstairs and knocked on the doorframe.
"I made popcorn- what do you want to watch?"
Damian was putting his clothes away in the top drawer and closed the drawer to look at Jon. "What do you want to watch?" He asked.
Damian shrugged. "Your choice."
Jon thought for a minute. "Have you ever seen Secondhand Lions?" He asked
Damian frowned. "Probably not."
Jon smiled. "It has old guys that shoot at car salesmen. I think you'd like it."
Damian felt himself relax. "Okay. Sounds good."
