Sneaking Out

"This is- for the record- a bad idea." Jon said as he zipped up his uniform jacket. Damian pulled his cape on tighter.

"Don't be a wimp." Damian said, packing batarangs into his belt.

"I'm not a wimp." Jon muttered, opening the window. Damian locked the door.

"Let's go." He jumped down onto the roof of the porch and then down to the ground, landing in a roll. Jon levitated down before his converse sneakers landed in the grass.

They walked to the barn and Damian pulled up a hologram on his watch. He was tracking the remotely-flown drone. It hovered and landed softly on the gravel driveway. In the cloak of darkness, they jumped in and Damian took over the controls.

"Metropolis, here we come." Damian grinned.

"Forever grounding, here we come." Jon muttered.

They flew off to Metropolis and landed on top of a building. Damian looked for a way down. "This way." He said, waving Jon over to a fire escape.

"What are we doing, exactly?" Jon asked.

"Looking for crime."

"What if we come across bad guys?"

Damian stopped his descent and looked at Jon. "That's what we're looking for."

"Right."

Once safely on the ground, they passed a dumpster between the alleyways. They emerged onto the street. Damian fiddled with his watch and turned the dial on the side. The police radio station played in their comm links.

"Woah. I can hear the radio." Jon said, pressing his ear. "That's cool."

"Yeah, it's really great." Damian muttered.

"You know I have super-hearing, right?" Jon laughed.

"Even better." He sighed.

"Okay. Listen up. We're going to intercept an armed robbery."

"But that's dangerous, D! Are we prepared?"

"Field names!" Damian shouted.

"Right, Robin." Jon shrugged.

Damian looked around the corner. "Can you stop a car?"

Jon's eyes widened. "It would kill me!"

"Well we don't know that-"

"I don't want to find out." Jon retorted.

Damian sighed. "Come on, we need to make our way to the other side of town where the pawn shop is."

"How are we supposed to do that?" Jon asked.

Damian grinned. "We have a drone because you can't fly."

Jon sighed. "Of course." He said. "And I might not be able to fly but I can reach the top shelf of the fridge."

Damian frowned. "Being less tall makes me fight better."

"Right." Jon laughed.

When they got to the other side of the pawn shop, no cops were on the scene.

"Good. We're here first." Damian said.

Jon sighed. "I dunno, Robin. Seems kind of dangerous."

The alarm was going off in the pawn shop and people were running out, screaming. Jon wrung his hands.

"We'll be fine." Damian said. "follow me." He ran across the street and pressed himself up against the side of the building. Jon was levitating. "Dude, stop that." Damian hissed.

"I can't!" Jon whispered, "I'm nervous-levitating."

"Well what do you do in school?" Damian said, rolling his eyes.

"I don't face men with guns in school."

"Well that's not how I was raised."

"Your mother tried to kill you."

Damian scoffed. "That's just a part of life."

"What?!" Jon asked, but Damian had already slipped in. Jon followed. Everything happened in a flash- Damian slid in behind the robber and jumped onto his back and disarmed him before flipping him over his head. Jon never really realized how skill D was with martial arts but he could definitely see how he was raised as an assassin.

"Superboy!" Damian yelled, pointing out of the shattered glass door to the street. Someone was trying to get away. This time in a car. Jon froze but saw that a little girl and her parents were crossing the streets "Gosh darn it." He whispered before running in front of the pedestrians and taking a deep breath, blowing ice and frost across the street, freezing everything around him. The car sputtered but broke through the icy barricade and lurched forwards, this time aiming at Jon.

Damian turned around as it happened: the car came directly toward Jon. He didn't flinch. He didn't try and run, he held his arms open and braced his feet before getting a direct hit.

Damian felt fear- something he never did. But a second later, Jon held the car over his head, tires still spinning and threw it down. The car settled and the driver got out and held his hands up. Police came onto the scene.

"And this is where we run." Robin said, pulling Superboy by the hood on his jacket. Jon fell over himself, trying to run away but caught himself and kept letting his red converse hit the pavement before Damian found the fire escape to an apartment building, housing a stole BatDrone.

Damian popped the top off and jumped in. Jon followed. He was shaking. They took off.

"Did you see it?" Jon asked.

Damian grinned. "The freeze breath, super strength, or the fact that you're indestructible?"

Jon swallowed. "I liked the part where I didn't pee my pants."

After 20 minutes, the boys reached Smallville and Damian sent the drone back to Gotham. They crawled up into the second story of the farm house where Jon's bedroom was. Good. They hadn't been caught... or had they?
