It's difficult, being captain of a high school football team. Of course that's a very typical line to say. There are so many expectations you're expected to follow. You're supposed to date head cheerleader, have a lot of friends, party, and be what you might consider popular. I had spent years following those expectations, there I only one I have failed...dating. In all truth my group of friends consider me very odd, I had had a girlfriend but it only took a month for me to say goodbye. I found dating annoying, I found any girlfriend id had annoying. Now I am in grade 12, considered tall blond and beautiful and single. My only problem, I have never found myself physically attracted to girls or guy, not sexually either.
I sat at a booth at me and my friend's favourite meeting place. A Jack Astor's near our school, Zaden Academy. They were late a usual; I was always first here so I sat for at least a half hour reading a novel for English. I looked over my book when I felt eyes on me. A bus boy a few tables down was staring at me, when I caught his eye he blushed and quickly picked up his cloth to go.
I was suddenly very curious about him, he looked familiar. He was thinner, tall but possibly a few inches shorter than 6ft. His hair was over grown and sleek black, his skin was pale but not the unhealthy kind.
I had to admit that even I found him kind of cute especially when he was blushing.
"Hey wait, come here a second" I said to him. Reluctantly he turned and walked towards me, when I looked at him he averted his gaze.
"You go to Zaden Academy to right?" I asked
"Yes im in your English class"
"Ya your names Tanner right?" His blush deepened.
"And you're Jessie right? Um who are ya waiting for?" he asked in a quit voice.
"Oh just some friends, if you want you could sit down, they'll probably be another half hour or so"
"Oh no that's ..."
"Tanner you can take a break now!" someone yelled. I looked at him, why is he so nervous? I wondered. Then It dawned on me
"Hey um just cuz i'm captain of the football team doesn't mean you have to be nervous" I said. Tanner went wide eyed and looked panicked.
"No no it's not that, um id like to sit with you." He quickly sat down across from me but still seemed edgy.
"So have you finished the English homework yet?" I asked "I mean because I don't get it"
"I...I got it, I could help you if you want?" he slowly seemed to relax a little. I pulled out my note book and flipped to the questions we were supposed to be working on. Then I looked back at Tanner.
"It might be easier if you sat beside me"
"Oh ya of course" he walked around the table and slid In next to me; yet he sat at the far end away from me. I slid the note book over and he looked over my answers.
"You're going to loose marks on the summary of the chapter if you have all these grammatical error" he said.
"Were?" I asked moving closer to him. My leg rubbed against his and he started to move away until he realized he had no more room to move.
"Uh... ya um here and this Is a fragment sentence...." He continued talking, but I wasn't really paying attention.
I was looking at him, his collar bone that was showing, his neck, his strong cheekbones, his unbelievably soft looking lips and his eyes, they were almost golden surrounded by full lashes. Despite his thin figure he was surprisingly fit, and the cologne he was wearing was not something I had ever smelt before. I found myself being drawn in; I moved my face closer to his neck breathing in the cent.
"Jessie wh...What are you doing?" Tanner asked. I sat up and looked at him, his face was as red as it could get and his eyes were both surprised and scared.
"Oh um the cologne your wearing it smells nice" I said with an awkward smile.
"Ya well i...i think my breaks over so ill uh see you in English?"
"Ya I replied" he got up and ran for the kitchen just as my friends walked in.
I looked and saw on the seat was a cell phone which must belong to Tanner; I picked it up and shoved it in my pocket just as they approached the table.
"Hey Jess what were you doing talking to the boy lover, that's risky" my friend Stephen said.
"What do you mean boy lover?" I asked confused.
"As if you didn't know he's gay" my other friend Natalia said.
"Wait he's gay?" I asked again. It struck me, the nervousness, the blushing, it all made sense.
