The next morning I sent my letter off, utterly terrified of their reaction. I knew the next step would be finding a place to live. I had no money and nowhere to go. I was able to stay at Hogwarts during Easter Break. I decided to go to the library and research the family tree.
I know that Fathe- that his side of the family is all gone. Her side, the Black's have so many member that there is bound to be a bunch. I knew that they all believe the same way, but maybe there is a squib in our family line. Perhaps that squib would be willing to take me in.
I spent hours pouring over the sacred twenty eight books and books on the pureblood families. I came up empty, hardly any books mentioned recent family members. The one's that did, never mentioned a squib or disowned family members.
Thinking about it, I knew that Snape would know this information. However, if I went to him he might go to them and tell them everything. I entered Transfiguration and an idea came to my mind. Professor McGonagall has taught here for years. She might know more about my family.
I impatiently waited for class to end, once it was over I waited back until we were the last two. She turned her stern eyes on my and raised an eyebrow. "I know you are not overly fond of me, Professor. You have every right to do so, my family is horrible and I have been nothing but terrible to everyone since I got here. Both of us never asked for me to be put in your house, but here we are. Despite everything that has happened before, I came here hoping you would do me a favor. I can not go back to Malfoy Manor this summer, or any summer henceforth. I can not even use the Malfoy name anymore. Please, can you tell me if you know of any Squibs or disowned Black's in my family?"
Professor McGonagall's eyes widened a bit, before she masked it. With a sigh she sat at her desk and waved for me to take the seat across from it. Keeping her eyes fixed on me she pulled out a plate and set it between us. "Have a biscuit."
My eyes widened and I slowly grabbed a chocolate biscuit from the pile. I nibbled on it as she started talking. "There is, from my recollection, one squib in the Black line. Marius, the brother to Dorea, Cassiopia, and Pollux Black. I have no clue of his whereabouts, or anyone who would know anything."
My heart sank, I really had no one...
"However," Professor McGonagall started, "there were two Blacks that have been disowned. One of which, is completely unable to help anyone. The other, just might. Her name is Andromeda. She is your mother's older sister."
"Why was she disowned? Mother never mentioned she had two sisters."
"She married a muggle-born Hufflepuff named Ted. Ted Tonks. They have a daughter, who graduated last year. She was also a Hufflepuff and is now in Auror training."
"That would do it." I grimaced. "Do you think she would take me in?"
"She might, you can write her a letter and ask. Please let me know when she responds. I can not allow a child to leave Hogwarts if they have no where to go." I nodded my thanks and hastily left her office.
I made my way to the library and spent hours trying to write to Andromeda. What do you say to an Aunt that you never knew existed? One that probably despises your family? I gave up after an hour and worked more on my studies.
