This is something very common in readerxCharacter stories. The writer gives the protagonist the most basic, boring and hollow characteristics ever. I know that this is so that the reader can easily relate to the protagonist, but it doesn't hurt to give the role of the reader some sass, fears, flaws or whatever. Remember that they are characters too.
