This is a thing I have only seen in 'reader x character' -fanfictions, but I'm still going to include it because Wattpad is basically 80% fanfictions and it irritates me. What I'm talking about is when the perspective in the story is like this:
You were rushing down the hall, hoping professor Snape wouldn't take too many points from your house for being late, but who could blame you? Potions were your least favorite subject. ''got dammit'' you mumbled as you opened the classroom door. (yes, I had to include Harry Potter).
Am I the only one who cringes when reading this? No... ok (forever alone then). On a serious note though, I don't like reading stories written in this perspective because it feels unnatural and weird like someone else is telling me what to do. It also has the effect of making the story really awkward to read (especially the parts with fluff or lemon). I often can't help but think 'no I did not' when I read something written in this style.
A better way to write a story like this is to change the perspective to 'I' or 'him/her/them'
Like this:
Draco Malfoy hugged her tightly, he didn't like showing his soft side in public. ''you act so differently when we are alone'' (name) chuckled. ''that doesn't mean I love you any less'' he assured her.
Or like this:
I was so shocked, never in my life had I got a zero on my test. ''bloody hell'' I whispered to myself and looked over at the student sitting next to me, who had gotten almost a 100% score.
