Slowly, I opened my eyes. The sun's ray hit my brows and forehead like a bully, smarting them. The dead, yellow hay beneath me felt excessively patchy and uncomfortable, while the sickening, scorching air did little good to my asthamatic self. I was aware that I've been stabbed mercilessly in the abdomen by none other than my best friend. Strangely, I felt no pain. Either physically or emotionally. For the first time in my life, I felt empty, like a sponge from which the last drop of water has been squeezed out. Drained. Emotionless . Weak. The high canopies of the decidious trees above didn't help the sinking feeling. I closed my eyes, quite ready to give myself up to the darkness, to a world of utter emptiness.
Suddenly, I was aware of a presence leaning above me. If it's going to be any demon, the better. Let them devour me, I have no expectations from life, no friends,no stable job. Heck, I don't even have a love interest!
I gritted my teeth as I opened my eyes once again, expecting to be greeted by red, viscous eyes crowned with twisted horns. Instead a pair of strikingly handsome mocha brown eyes met my lingering gaze. The face above me was a fine specimen: a natural Indian tan; puppy brown eyes with huge eyelashes, silky dark hair to die for, complete with the sharpest jawline ever. If the Devil had a face, it would probably be this man gazing at me. Extremely hot and tempting.
But then, I read a human emotion in his eyes. Concern. Pure concern with a hint of fear.Oh, how lively those eyes were! After being surrounded with spirits lacking the basic humane characteristics, being face to face with a human emotion, however slight it may be, was Heaven.I knew as a matter of fact that he was a human like me. And what luck to be greeted with such a radiant, alluring face . For a second, I wondered about the possibility of the elevator game as a terrible nightmare, but no, the things I've experienced were quite real.
Guess curiosity really killed the cat. My insatiable quest for the unknown has inevitabely lead me here. Ma always warned me to be aware of 'ghosts and things', but I never listened and now I'm in a tight spot. Remember that kids, always listen to mom! How I wished I had never tried this ghostly game, maybe I would have been snuggling in a blanket watching 'Friends' then. I scolded myself mentally a trillion times, promising myself I'll never act on an impulse in my entire life. That is, if I get to live out of this whole trauma.Tears welled up in my eyes as I thought it over and over again of my death. My life seemed to be pathetic, loved by no one, my only friend being snatched away from me.
"Thanks Goodness, she's human."
A husky voice slurred in my ears and I realized that it was the human speaking.
"Ummm, where am I?", I quizzed the man, sitting up straight on the scatty ground.
The boy eyed me from top to bottom. I blushed as I understood that he was checking me out.His eyes on me,he said.
" The Array Forest. Care to explain how you got here?" ,he retorted with a knowing smile.
Over the next half an hour, I told him my entire story, of how I was recommended the Elevator Game by a friend, how I pushed my luck by speaking to the woman in the lift, how I escaped from being dragged to Hell, how I fainted during the ritual, landing up in my own home and how I realized later that I was not actually home and got stabbed by a friend. Speaking of my injuries, I glanced at my stomach wounds and ,sure enough, they were there, bleeding ruthlessly but I felt absolutely no pain, not even a sting. As he listened to my ordeal, he closed his eyes, nodding his head at times. Finally he gazed at my injuries. He touched my knees, and oh boy, didn't that feel good! He snaked his palm up my stomach, poking and prying about the injury, more of a sort of a researcher examining his specimen.
"Dang, this is not good", he muttered to himself.
"Umm, what's not good?", I asked, feeling like a child.
