*Ellie’s POV*

“Nics, I better go.” I told my best friend, Nica Howard, while grabbing my scattered books on the table. Well, I just feel that… the place somewhat stinks. Of course it would—the big-named gents has just arrived. What would I expect?

“El…” Nica eyed me meaningfully… Yeah, I already got her point… She wants me to stay.

“morning babe.”

And that’s Dean McCall, one of the populars here at school and the most dissipated point guard of Cornwall Basketball Club. Unfortunately, he’s Nica’s boyfriend. So yeah, that’s a very sad story for me.

One thing that I am surely uncomfortable with here in Cornwall High is that I obviously don’t like to hang out with these populars. You see, my best friend here has a popular boyfriend. And she too is popular. Who wouldn’t be? She’s a cheerleader, not the head cheerleader but still a cheerleader. And they’re all adored and praised in Cornwall. And yeah, Nica’s an exception. I hang out with her even if she’s popular because of course, she’s my best friend; my childhood best friend.

Another thing, I don’t wanna exaggerate things here but based on my keen observation, for 3 years of studying in this school, it has already been a tradition (or whatever it is called) for the ladies to exalt the presence of the mighty and renowned guys in this campus. Ha! And that would I never do! No no no no freakin’ way! I mean, there would be no reason for a wallflower like me to share a glimpse of spotlight with these shinning diamonds. And I am not interested either! So I think, that explains why I hate being with Nica whenever she’s with Dean. Nica would either leave me alone to go with her boyfriend or I’ll just initiate to excuse myself since I don’t want to be with Dean and his basketball buddies. They’re all populars. And I clearly don’t fit in their clique.

“Hey Monroe.” That’s Scott Maxwell, the team’s captain. He could do any pose inside the court that’s why he’s labelled as “The Ace”. He could be a good point guard since he assists so well, or be the center because of his jumping skills. He also rains three-pointers and dunks. He even drives the ball alone and still gets a point since he’s lightning fast.

Oh, so why wouldn’t he just teleport to another planet or just become a real star in the sky, right? You know, if that happens, I would be the happiest girl alive!

“Maxwell.” I smiled half-heartedly, just enough to acknowledge his presence.

“Scott,” Nica chirped in a huffed tone, “my best friend has a name okay?”

“Sure.” Scott shrugged mockingly before turning back to me, “Hey Ella.”

“Ellie.” I corrected seriously. One more try Maxwell, and I’ll surely rip your head off!

“Eely?” He asked, acting like he didn’t hear a word at all.

I stared at him gravely. He’s sure how to play games well. He’s an ace player after all.

“Oh. Fine, fine!” He chuckled, “I’m sorry… Emmy.”

I surely wonder why lots of people like this guy when perhaps he certainly knows how to annoy the hell out of me.

And I surely wonder why he’s still the most sought-after guy around when perhaps he’s a legendary heartbreaker.

Strange, it is.

He is, according to men, actually perfect. Like if scientists had to build a perfect human face out of scratch, they would probably just recreate his face exactly. His jawline alone is flawless. At any given moment, if he’s not moving, he looks like a perfect golden statue. He is, anatomically speaking, faultless. His hair and his eyes and his eyebrows and his skin and freckles are actually just beautiful. His face looks like it was chiseled from actual Grecian marble. His body looks like it was just made to be in a suit to look crowning and spotless.

They say too that his bluish-green eyes are always loved to be gazed at by every girl; his tousled chestnut brown hair? Ha! The womankind would surely enjoy to play with it; his well-built physique with a very masculine details and features would make every guy insecure; and of course that unreachable ego and that ruthless heart that I, Ellie Monroe, would never ever dare to run into.

The bell then rang signaling for the start of the first period classes. So I quickly grabbed my things and motioned to go.

“I’ll go ahead.” I coldly said as I excused myself and slung my bag on my shoulders.

“Ellie!” Nica called before me and I turned my head back to her. “I’ll see you later.” She said as she flashed an apologetic smile.

“Sure.” I nodded, smiled back and went straight ahead.

The day went good so far even though I haven’t met with Nica anymore after that small talk with her and the guys this morning. She kept on texting me her apologies and I just forgiven her directly. I kinda got used already of being alone most of the time and her absence’s not a big deal anymore.

Also, I texted her that I’ll just go home ahead since she still has a practice with her squad.

I immediately hopped inside my car when I reached the space where my car’s been parked.

I seated comfortably on the driver’s seat and started the ignition. When I turned the wheel and stomped on the accelerator at the same time, I accidentally bump the other car’s back portion making it emit a loud sound, maybe loud enough to notify the owner that his or her car’s been crashed on.

“Oh my god.” I braked hard and went out of the car quickly. “Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god.” What the—? This car is Scott’s! What to do? What to do?!

I bit my nails as I panicked. Not long enough, Scott arrived at the parking lot still panting, soaking wet in sweat and still in his gym attire.

“THE FUCK!” He cursed loudly when he saw the visible scratches on his car, “WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY CAR?!” His eyes broadened when it met mine.

Oh. I’m so dead.
