As we entered the maze everyone stopped. Most people looked around since they have never been inside the maze before.
"Can someone please give a pep talk?" I asked them hoping it would help get rid of all the fear that washed over me. Minho cleated his throat and I got ready for what he was about to say.
"Be careful don't die," We all rolled our eyes at his words.
"We shouldn't waste time, come on," Thomas took off running into the maze and we all followed him. My heart raced as I looked around and the memories of my first time in the maze cane flooding back. Newt noticed how distressed this was making and held my hand tightly to let me know he was protecting me. Every turn, every vine reminded me of that terrifying night. We ran through the blade and past the blades then Thomas made a sudden stop. He looked behind the wall we all stopped us and sighed.
"Is it a Griever?" Chuck asked. He nodded and looked back at us.
"Chuck stay behind us," Minho instructed.
"It's okay, just stick with me," I rested my hand on his shoulder and he looked up at me and smiled.
"I'll stay with you too," Teresa smiled at me but I just ignored it.
"We stay close we stick together, we get out now. Or we die trying," Thomas told us. We all nodded and got our weapons ready.
"Let's go!" Thomas shouted before we all ran towards the Griever ready to attack. We all fought the Griever with so much force but it was too strong. It picked one boy up and threw him over the cliff. Suddenly a robotic arm went through the floor in front of Teresa, Chuck and me. Teresa grabbed her blade and hit it repeatedly accidentally hit the key out of chucks hand. He jumped up and ran to get it but just as he got it he slipped and fell over the cliff. I ran after him and grabbed onto his bag to pull him up. Unfortunately I wasn't strong enough and could hardly hold him up. Suddenly another pair of hands grabbed onto his shoulders and helped pull him up. We pulled and together were able to get chuck safely back on his feet. I looked up and smiled at Teresa for helping us. Just as we got chuck up the boys were able to push the Griever off the cliff, but two more Grievers climbed up next to Teresa, Chuck and I. We ran to the boys and the grievers chased us. The boys pushed past us and fought the grievers while the three of us ran to the wall in front of us. It slowly opened the moment we approached it and more walls raised revealing a passage way to a door.
"It worked" I whispered in disbelief. We ran through the space in front of us until we reached the sealed door.
"There has to be a way out," Teresa desperately searched for something that would open the door. The longer we took the more boys lives were taken. Suddenly a bright light appeared on the door and it showed 8 spaces for numbers.
"A code" I whispered.
"Thomas! There's a code! 8 numbers!" Teresa shouted. Thomas looked to Minho and asked, "The sequence! What is it?"
"715264!" He shouted then suddenly a Griever dropped onto Minho from what seemed like the sky. The Grievers face was inches away from Minho's ready to tear his faces apart with its teeth. Suddenly Jeff attacked it, hitting it with his weapon again and again. Minho managed to get away from the creature  but not both of them made it to us. Jeff was grabbed by the Griever and disappeared into the group of Grievers.
"Minho what's the rest?!" I shouted.
"Uh 6483! Is that it?" He replied while the boys fought off the Griever. Teresa entered the code and the red light turned green. Suddenly the walls dropped down on the three Grievers I front of us. It went pitch black when the walls closed, suddenly the door opened in front of us and a blinding light shone through. I stepped through the door and let the others follow behind me. Newt wrapped his arm around me and pulled me close. Suddenly lights above us lit leading us down a hallway. I was the first person the start walking down it and everyone followed me. Slowly we walked until we saw a door to our right labelled 'exit'. I looked at Newt with wide eyes and waited for him to tell me what to do. He smiled and nodded at me so I turned the cold nob on the door and slowly pushed it open. The door creaked open revealing another hallway but this time with dead bodies scattered everywhere. I pulled newt by his shirt and held him close to me as I walked in and stared at the lifeless bodies in front of me. I looked into a window next to me and shivered when I saw two dead bodies completely covered by a white sheet. My grip on newt tightened as we walked further down the hallway, every window showing more dead people. I froze when we walked into a room with a wall of computers, each showing a different section of the glade. Newt had to push me to get me to keep moving.
"So they were watching us. This whole time," newt confirmed when he saw the computers. I looked around and saw images of all our faces.
"Oh my god," I whispered. Suddenly Thomas pressed something and a woman's face appeared in front of us. She was a blonde middle aged woman dressed in an all white suit.
"Hello, my name is Doctor Ava Paige," she started. We all approached the large screen.
"I am director of operation worlds catastrophe kill zone department. If you're watching this that means you have successfully completed the maze trials, I wish I could have been there to congratulate you in person but circumstances have prevented that. I'm sure you must all be confused, angry, frightened. I can only assure that everything that's happened here, everything that we've done for you was done for a reason. You won't remember but the sun has scorched our world," she explained. Videos and pictures of the world in flames, people getting burned alive and bodies collapsing appeared. Doctor Paige continued explaining about how the world ended and described the misery people went through as more images showed up.
"What came after was worse," she spoke, "we called it 'the flare.' A deadly virus that attacked the brain. It is violent, incurable," she explained. My blood ran cold when I saw the video of a man shaking violently, going crazy. Black blood ran from his mouth and black and blue streams flowed through his veins showing everywhere on his skin. She explained that the only cure was a new generation who they had to test, put in harsh environments to study their brain activity. She explained how we were the cure. Suddenly people dressed in black ran into the background and started shooting countless people behind her. I gasped as I saw the people drop dead one by one. I wasn't even listening to what Ava was saying, due to everything happening behind her, until I realised she was holding a gun to her head. I pulled my attention back to her just as she said her last words.
"Wicked is good," she said then closed her eyes and pulled the trigger. I turned around and hid my face in newts chest not wanting to see the suicide. He wrapped his arms around me and stroked my hair. Thomas found Ava's body and we all walked towards it I stopped in our tracked when a passage way opened showing our way out. We all froze unable to believe we actually made it.
"What do we do?" I asked Newt. Suddenly a deep, shaky voice came from behind us.
"Stop," I demanded. We all turned around and saw Gally pointing a gun at us. His eyes had gone a darker colour and his skin was pale with purple, black veins popping out. He had been stung.
"We can't leave," he spat.
"Gally it's okay. We're free," I pleaded. I slowly stepped forward but stepped back when he pointed his gun directly at me.
"Free? You think we're free out there?" He slowly shifted his gun away from me and too Thomas. It was obvious Thomas would be his target due to their relationship they had.
"There's no escape from this place," his finger rested on the trigger ready to pull. I slowly put my hands up and stepped in front of Thomas blocking the way for Gally.
"Gally put the gun down, you can come with us, we'll help you," I pleaded. He shook his head, "no I belong in the maze. We all do." At those words he pulled the trigger. I gasped and look down at my stomach expecting to see the bullet through me but there was nothing.
"Y/N," I heard a whisper and turned around to see blood leak through chucks chest. The sweet, innocent boy collapsed into my arms and gently placed him on the cold, hard floor. I screamed and cried as I knelt down next to him.
"Chuck! Chuck! Chuck you're gonna be okay!" I cried. Thomas ran to Gally and beat him until the stung boy fell unconscious. Chucks once bright brown eyes fell dull and lifeless. He hardly moved his mouth as he moaned my name and pulled something out of his pocket. He opened his hand and revealed a small wooden figurine.
"Chuck? Chuck what is this?" I questioned in between sobs.
"Find my parents," He whispered and slipped his wooden figurine, now stained with bright red blood, into my hand and clasped his hand around mine. I shook my head rapidly and let sobs take over me.
"No no Chuck you're gonna be okay. You're gonna make it through this like you always do," I'm not sure if he understood what I said thanks to the hiccups and cries that took over my words.
"I-It's Okay, it's okay Y/N," he whispered. I shook my head.
"No no no Chuck you're okay." All the life in his eyes faded away and went completely blank. His lip stopped quivering and his blood ran cold. Realisation struck me and I screamed in pain. I shook his lifeless body hoping that somehow he would his eyes would flutter open and he would smile his perfect little smile. I was too caught up in trying to wake him up to notice the group of guards burst into the room and emptied the room of gladers. A pair of arms wrapped around my waist and lifted me off the ground. I struggled against the strong arms to run back to Chuck. Newt carried me to a helicopter and sat me next him and the other squished up gladers. I opened my hand and looked at the figurine resting in my palm as I cried into newts chest. Suddenly the helicopter lifted off the ground and we got a good, real look of the maze.
"Are we safe now?" I asked Newt. He looked down and smiled hushing me and stroking my head as I rested my head on his chest. The man sitting in front of us, the man who saved us I assume sighed.
"Relax kids, everything's gonna change."
