In the wake of her first failed mission came a cruel punishment in form of a concussion and her creator's disappointment. Athena didn't know which had been worse, but her creator's disappointment definitely brought a lot more pain than the concussion.

Right now, Athena was forced to stand guard in front of the World Security Council's office as Pierce voiced his concerns to them.
The constant searing and burning pain in the bottoms of her feet distracted her from what they were actually discussing about, but she had no doubt he was playing them like a fiddle.

A ding from the elevator brought Athena from her meditative state of pain and back to reality.
She was surprised when Fury came out, a skeptical look on his face.
Athena was quick to change her expression from a pained to a concerned one.

"Is everything alright director?"

"No, I need to talk to your dad." Athena nodded and quickly walked into the other room to get her creator.
"Mr Pierce, Director Fury is here to see you." Pierce quickly turned off the conference call and immediately followed his daughter back out.

"I work forty floors away and it takes a highjack for you to visit?" He joked lightly.
"A nuclear war would do it too. You busy in there?" Athena could see Pierce tense up. Suddenly very nervous for some reason.

"Nothing some earmarks can't fix." Pierce reassured.

"I'm here to ask a favour." Fury said hesitantly, knowing full well what he was about to ask. "-I want you to call for a vote. Project insight has to be delayed." Athena almost choked on her own spit.

"Nick. That's not a favour, that's a sub-committee hearing. A long one." Pierce kept his cool, knowing full well what had sown the doubt within his friend. "It probably is nothing, I just need time to make sure it's nothing." Athena gathered herself after the initial shock and looked worried at Fury and her creator.
Fury was the closest thing she had to a father figure, which wasn't much, but he'd been that since he saved her life that one time. However, Athena knew, if he'd found out about the organisation's plans, her creator would kill him without hesitation.

"But if it's something?" The fright in her voice was real enough. But not because of a possible delay in project insight. She didn't care much for the organisation and it's plans as long as it wasn't her mission. "Then we'll be damn glad those helicarriers aren't in the air." Fury promised them with an intense look. Athena was conflicted. But above all other emotions, she feared her creator and what he was going to do.

Pierce didn't spare his daughter a single glance before he sentenced her to her possible death. "-Fine. But you have to take Athena out with you. She's slowly dying of boredom in here." Pierce knew very well what was coming the director's way after their little talk.

Athena looked at her creator betrayed. "Thank you sir. C'mon then Thea." The sound of her childhood nickname rolling off of Fury's tongue pulled her eyes away as she followed him into the elevator.
