The Beginning

Okay, I'm going to go back to the day this all started. It was the 6th of May in 2000 and my mother gave birth to me in the women's bathroom during a live rock concert. Maybe that was too far back. She named me Anashe which was a mixture of Anastasia and Shannon who were my grandmothers. Apparently they fought over who I should be named after so Ma decided to mix them together into something completely different. Anyway, I'm getting way ahead of myself. Let me speed this up a little. Over the years, I was passed down this beautiful emblem that had never left its chain and I became attached to the necklace. I wore it everywhere after my abuela Anastasia passed away and handed it down to her only granddaughter. One day, in Central City, I was hiking with my girls as a large explosion came from the city's center. Lightning struck Mari off the cliff we had come by and as I tried to reach out for her, I got hit as well and fell into the water. Now, I don't know how long I had been under but when I woke up ashore, it was no longer 2014...

I lifted myself up as the noise of cars sped on the highway. My clothes were drenched and the necklace still hung around my neck. Thank goodness. As I walked among the sand, a police car pulled on its lights as it stopped next to me.

"Excuse me miss," the officer called out. "Are you lost?"

"Yes," I cried. "Can you please get me out of here?"

"Of course, get in."

The kind officer took me to the hospital to get checked out as he asked me a few questions. It was 2016. I had lost two years of my life. Two fucking years. How does that happen? I had built a life for myself at Keystone High. Thanks God, thanks. What now? A lovely nurse helped me as she let me leave the day I arrived. She recommended I find a woman named Caitlin Snow who could help me understand my condition better. When I found out she worked at STAR Labs, I couldn't help but hold a big smile on my face. That place looked awesome. As I walked out, a red blur rushed past my eyes as I became slightly disoriented. Okay, I saw that, right? That was real? What the hell was that? Also, how is that possible? I got out of there before I felt the need to admit myself into a psychiatric institution.

When I arrived at STAR Labs, it was empty. There was a Belly Burger cup that was still slightly cold. They must have just left. Damn. I looked around. There were monitors but I didn't want to try use them. An empty mannequin which was odd. Who would have that?

"Oh wow, how did you get in here?" a man walked in.

"By walking," I looked up at him.

"Not what I meant. Ugh, can you leave?" he suggested.

"Okay, I can understand the panic. I'm a complete stranger."

"Uh, yeah."

"But I'm looking for a Caitlin Snow."

They laughed and leaned against the monitors. "How do you know Caitlin?"

"The nurse at the hospital said I should come here and find her," I explained.

A woman then walked in. "What's going on? And who are you?"

I introduced myself and wondered if she were the magnificent Caitlin Snow.

"Nurse Lo... something recommended I should come to you," I added.

"You mean, Nurse Lovelly?" Caitlin corrected.

"Yeah, that's it. You know her? Of course, you do."

She smiled as she waved me over to the medical bay in the area as I followed.

I sat myself up on the bed voluntarily as I felt a spark rush from my necklace.

After a few tests, Caitlin found something.

"It appears your meta DNA is absorbing cosmic energy."

"Like stardust?" I questioned.

"Well, of some sort. Your metahuman genetics seem to be able to absorb and manipulate. Kind of like an astero- or cosmo-kinesis. Maybe even both. This thing," she held a small containment in her hands, "is a stabilizer. It will help you gain control and learn how to use your abilities should you wish to."

"Hm," I looked at the thing. "Cheers."

She smiled. "It will help, don't worry."

It pierced my skin as a bubble formed around us before it exploded. A line traced a circle around us as Caitlin bent down and picked up the little pieces of shards that she recognized as meteorite. Kind of like stardust from shooting stars. I fiddled with my necklace which I always did in a panic as it exposed an aura across my skin.

"Wow," the man returned.

"Your pendant seems to have been affected by the dark matter as well. Is it okay if I just take a look at it?" Caitlin asked.

"I'm not taking it off," I refused.

"You don't have to."

Caitlin seemed harmless as she approached the amulet around my neck.

It had traces of dark matter through it which seemed to have triggered the amulet's original power to a greater force. They said my amulet was the cosmic pendant out of all the others they had known of.

"It seems to have something behind it," Caitlin noticed.

I fiddled with it again as my aura had disappeared and instead, something came out. Something that my ancestors once wore in a photo I discovered in the attic at home. On that note, I knew I had to return once I saw I wore the outfit my grandmother had worn in the group she was pictured with. There were others out there. Ones in the picture she worked with. I knew some of their daughters. Diah was Anthea's granddaughter. Jasmina was Francia's, and Mariah was Harriet's. They all called themselves the Young Bombshells.
