The next morning when I woke up, it was 10:25. "Ugh," I groaned, sitting up and rubbing my head. I had only forty-five minutes before breakfast ended, and I still needed to get ready for the day. I also had to allow myself time to get lost before I could find the cafeteria again.

So, instead of giving up free food in the form of breakfast that my states were paying for, I wandered around and tried to find it in my pajamas; I would change after breakfast had been taken care of. I got lost once. Eventually, I recognized where I was going and could get to the food.

I walked in, and immediately noticed a change from yesterday. There was a cluster of countries sitting at Canada's table, all trying to talk to him at once. He looked extremely uncomfortable.

"Morning, y'all," I said lazily, flopping down next to my brother.

Canada tried his best to give me a welcoming smile, but it came off as more of a grimace. "These dinguses won't leave me alone," he said in a low voice, subtly gesturing at the assembled crowd.

Ukraine and Mexico, who were sitting right next to him, overheard this. "We just want to know what happened last night," Mexico sighed. "You scared a bunch of us, friend. Including America."

"I can explain!" I called out. Immediately, the chatter hushed. Canada looked like he wanted to leave the room as quickly as possible and leave the explaining to me. "So, how many of you know the story of what happened between us during the War of 1812?"

Only Great Britain, UK, and France raised their hands.

"Ohhhhh kay then. So, in 1812, tensions between us brothers had risen to almost the breaking point, for a bunch of unimportant reasons that we'll ignore for now. So a leading US general, William Hull, invaded Upper Canada, at Sandwich, Toronto. Of course, this made Toronto mad, which made Canada mad, because no one ever messes with his kids. On November 23, we retreated from Canada's land for more reasons, more war stuff happened in 1813, and then we get to 1814. August 24. A fateful day for the both of us, I think." I glanced at Canada, who was glancing around at the crowd to judge their reactions. Most were shocked, not believing that my peaceful brother and my overprotective self had ever actually fought each other.

"Keep in mind that this was when 'Nada was still under England's control," I added. "So, they were my brother's troops fulfilling our father's orders."

"I became independent on July 1, 1867." Canada said happily.

Japan gasped. "That means your birthday is coming up!" She squealed. "We have to find a way to celebrate that with you!"

"Back to the story," I said hurriedly, noticing that Japan's announcement had caught several country's attention. "On August 24, troops marched into Washington DC and burned it down. They burned everything they could. It was brutal."

"War in general is brutal." Canada said quietly. "And yes, I am not happy about what my people did, but it's not like we countries can control our citizens. Especially you, America. Your people are so enamored with freedom it's practically become their battle cry."

"Well, of course it is," I said, grinning. "Freedom forever. The Founding Fathers had it right."

Canada rolled his eyes, and picked up the story where I had left off. "So, of course Meri wasn't pleased with me, so we continually fought after that. In 1815-"

"Wait!" I interrupted. "You're forgetting something VERY IMPORTANT."

"Oh, my bad." Canada frowned passive- aggressively. "Francis S. Key wrote 'The Star- Spangled Banner', which, in case you didn't know, is America's national anthem. But anyways, in 1815, we finally reached a peace agreement. We haven't fought a war against each other since, and never intend to."

There was a polite smattering of applause.

"Well, wait." Ukraine started. "That doesn't explain why you go all psycho on America whenever that song is played."

"He just does that," I explained. "I don't think Canada ever got over this war. He's done this ever since that song was written."

"Good times," Canada said wistfully. "I mean, obviously I feel bad after almost killing America every time, but that is one of my favorite songs."

"You guys have one of the weirdest sibling relationships I've ever seen," Spain chuckled. "Besides Japan and her twin brother, who love and hate each other way to much. And the Koreas, who are always fighting but never actually try to kill each other."

"It's America's fault," Canada said bluntly. "Some of his states are so weird, I think it rubbed off on him."

I rolled my eyes as a round of laughter rolled through the cafeteria. "I'm going to go grab some food before I starve," I announced, standing up and walking over to a digital menu on a wall.

I heard someone come up behind me. "America-senpai?" The neko Japanese twin asked. I turned around with an internal sigh.

"Yes, Japan?"

"I want your help planning Canada's birthday party," She whispered, ears twitching. "It's in five days. Five days! That's not a lot of time."

"Who else is helping?" I asked, leaning against the wall as I waited for my order.

"I've already asked Ukraine and Mexico, of course," she giggled. "I wonder which one of them he'll end up choosing. But besides that, I'll be asking Germany, Poland, Belarus, France, Ireland, all of UK and his countries, Italy, Greece, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Russia, and South Korea. Did I forget anyone? Oh, of course! Australia, New Zealand, Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia."

"That's almost everyone on the cruise," I said, amused. "Canada usually prefers small parties. And how on earth to you remember all that so clearly?"

"But this IS a small party!" She exclaimed, forgetting to be quiet, and ignoring my question. "That's not even half the countries I invite to my parties!"

"Oh, I know." I sighed in exasperation. "Look, Japan, can you leave me alone to think for a little bit? I was wondering if I could use the ship's radio to chat with my states after breakfast."

"Um- oh, ok." She said, tail drooping a bit. "You'll help me though, right?"

"Sure, sure." I said, distracting by a ding! I turned to face the square opening to the right of the screen. The robot in the window produced a tray of scrambled eggs, toast, bacon, and orange juice. I took the food, then went and sat back down beside Ukraine.

"Where's Canada?" I asked, already shoving bacon into my mouth.

The blue and yellow country scowled and shrugged. "I don't know," she said. "He left with Mexico to go play a game or something."

She's jealous, I realized. "You don't have to worry," I assured her. "Canada thinks about you a lot, believe me."

Ukraine blinked at me. "Really?" She asked in disbelief, adjusting her flower crown.

"Um, of course. Why else would he spend so much time with you?" I glanced down, realizing I had dripped bacon grease onto my pajamas, and sighed. "Gotta go," I said, standing up. "See ya later." I quickly finished my lunch, threw my tray into the recycling bin, and walked up several flights of stairs to the main deck.

It was time to talk to my states.
