*Daryl's POV* Its Maddie's birthday. My youngest is two years old. The thing about Maddie's birthday is it's not just celebrating another year in the life of Maddie but also another year since Margaret had died. But I like to keep it on the positive and celebrate Maddie.
I wish there was something special we could do today like Normal, but under our circumstances there isn't. Just gonna spend the day hanging out with the girls then.
I sit up in bed and rub the sleep out of my eyes. I look over to my left and see Hayley asleep beside me, then look to my right and see Maddie asleep beside me. I turn and start to shake Hayley first to wake her up.
"What daddy?" She groans.
"It's time to wake up." I say," you know what today is?"
"Is it Maddie's birthday?"
"Yeah."
I turn and pick Maddie up. She stirred a little but didn't wake up like I thought she would. So I gently brush her cheek. Something Margaret would do to wake Hayley.
"Wake up sweetheart." I say. She starts to wake up. Then starts to whine. "Oh don't you start whining it's your birthday, birthday girls can't cry." After that me and the girls walked down to the quarry. I was carrying Maddie and Hayley was jogging in front of us.
We make it down to the quarry and sit down. Maddie on my lap.
"What are we gonna do today daddy?" Hayley asks.
"Planning on just hangin' out with y'all today. Shane and the rest of camp can handle one day." I reply.
"Do you and uncle Merle not like Shane?"
"I mean we ain't friends, but we just met 'im not to long ago. Why you ask?"
"Cause I heard uncle Merle call him officer dumbass."
"'Ey don't say that. Watch yer language."
"Okay sorry." She apologizes,"Can I go play in the water?"
"Yeah sweetie just stay where I can see ya."
She runs to the water and jumps in. She swims around for a minute, and while I'm busy with Maddie who's playing with her stuffed bear she always has, Hayley splashes water so it gets all over me and Maddie. Maddie just giggles.
"What was tha' for?" I ask with a smile.
"Your bein' boring come play in the water Daddy." She says giggling.
"I have Maddie sweetheart she can't get in the water."
"Yeah she can, the water ain't gonna hurt 'er. Just stay in the shallow end, and yer gonna be with 'er." She says splashing again to get water on Maddie. Which makes the two year old laugh again.,"See she likes it."
I Just laugh and stand with Maddie and walk over to the water. I put Maddie's feet in and she starts kicking her legs. I laugh, then get splashed again by Hayley.
"Oh yer gonna get it." I say putting Maddie on my hip. I then splash Hayley with my free hand. We start a splashing war. Maddie was just laughing the whole time. To which some of the campers came and started watching from a distance, not wanting soaked.
When we were done with that we went back up to the shore. Maddie was getting sleepy already, and Hayley was wore out from the playing.
After a minute Hayley looked over to Maddie and started singing "happy birthday" to her. Happy Birthday to You Happy birthday to you Happy birthday dear Maddie, Happy birthday to you.
I just listened as she sang and I smiled. I love my little girls so much. And Hayley is a good big sister. I wish Margaret was here to see.
