A few years later at the beginning of senior year we began applying for colleges. Jamie, who had decided to become a doctor had applied to about 10, while I made the stupid decision of only applying to tisch. We got our letters in December and Jamie got into a college in Southern California with a strong premed program but I got rejected. I then decided to apply to the California Institute of the arts which was conveniently also in Southern California.

We decided that it would be perfect. We could rent an apartment together, even though the idea made us both rather uncomfortable since we had never actually had even had sex before. But both of us could go to school and since we would be splitting the rent it wouldn't be so hard financially. Everything seem to be falling into place. That is until I got my second rejection letter.

Jamie said that we could just stay in New York another year and go to the community college and finish all or general education. That we'd both just reapply next year but I didn't let her. I knew that she really wanted to go to California, and it was going to be really hard for her to divide up all he premed requirements into 3 years instead of 4 .

I convinced her to go. Told her that we could handle a year apart. Promised her that we'd talk every night and visit each other as much as possible.

If only it were that easy.
