chapter 03:
blossom

ELEANOR

The coffee shop was nice, to say the least. Cooped up booths were situated around the small area, the aroma of coffee beans accompanied the almost deepened screeching of the machine. Insignificant conversations took place at any and every table - business men spoke of confidential deals whilst teenage girls whispered of the length of their last one night stand. I, however, couldn't seem to enjoy the aura that came from this place as my mind tugged me back to just ten minutes ago.

My hands shook as I trailed the rim of the hot coffee cup in front of me. Luther hadn't taken his eyes off me since we had sat down.

"Eleanor, you're shaking." He mumbled.

"I am aware." I snapped.

"I was just saying-"

"Well don't just say." I clenched my jaw, so hard I heard it click. He looked down, tracing the various curves in the woodwork of the table. I noticed lightly raised, red marks littering his hands. I chose to ignore them.

"Sorry." He whispered. I sighed and mentally face palmed.

"Look, I didn't mean to snap. I just get antsy when stuff like that happens." I shrugged, my eyes darting to the worn table once I noticed his intense gaze focused on me. A small blush crept up onto my cheeks, and I coughed into my sleeve to prevent him from seeing anything. He smirked but pretended to ignore it.

"You are forgiven." He said softly. He gave me a small smile, but it didn't quite reach his eyes. I smiled back, grateful for his understanding.

"So," I started, "Chemistry?" He smirked, an almost smug expression situated on his face.

"I don't actually have any chemistry, I did it the day it was given," His smirk grew, "I just wanted to spend time with you." I rolled my eyes.

"You're pushing your luck, Sherlock." I narrowed my eyes and he chuckled.

"Sure I am. But it worked, right?" I rolled my eyes again but couldn't help the small smile dancing across my lips.

"You could say that."

A barista came over. I didn't look up since Luther seemed like he was going to order for me.

"Would you like any more- Oh." I looked up to see her eyeing me up-yet she couldn't meet my eyes.

She was quite pretty, a small blush creeping up to my cheeks at her beauty. Her hair was about shoulder length, blonde with red at the ends. Her nose was small, snub. Her eyes were a deep blue, but they still couldn't meet my gaze.

"Can I help you..?" My words were slow, followed by a short, nervous chuckle. She fumbled with the notepad.

"Are you the one that saved the girl from jumping off the building?" I widened my eyes a little at her direct statement.

"Y-yeah. That was me."

"I-It was really great. What you did." I could tell she was nervous, so I tried to be gentle.

"Thanks, have a nice day." I gave her a small, parting smile. She smiled back at me.

"You too, blossom!" My head perked up at this, a confused expression flashing across my face. Her face no doubt reflected mine.

"What did you just call me?" I asked hesitantly.

"Uh..blossom? Is that ok or..?" I chuckled quietly to myself.
