My eyes fluttered open and then quickly shut again from the light pouring into my room. I had a splitting headache and I'm pretty sure I drank way too much last night. I could hardly remember anything from last night.

"C'mon, Alexis you have to," my friend Jess said.

"Yeah, it's your eighteenth birthday, you can finally drink legally. Let's go out," Ava said.

"But it'll be loud," I whined like a baby. My friends, Jess, Ava, and Mary, were currently sitting on my bed trying to pull me out of my room. I had lain around all day and at about 6:30 my friends showed up.

"There could be cute guys there," Mary tempted in a sing-song voice.

"Or there could be creeper guys," I retorted.

"Alexis, you are going whether you like it or not. Now get your butt out of this bed right now," Jess said.

"No," I said stubbornly.

"We can do this the easy way or the hard way," she said. Ava and Mary nodded in agreement.

"Fine. But, we come home when I want to," I said.

"Whatever, we need to get ready," Mary said pulling me to my wardrobe excitedly.

A couple hours later they were dragging me to the club in a dress that I considered way too short and revealing. I couldn't win with this dress. It was black and lacey and if I pulled at the bottom my boobs would start coming out, if I pulled it up my bottom would begin to show.

"Why did you guys put me in this horrid dress?" I complained.

"You look fabulous," Mary said flipping her hair slightly.

"Besides maybe you'll get a little fun," Ava said winking. I shook my head in disapproval as we continued our short trek to the bright building booming with music. Jess, being almost a regular here, walked straight up to the bouncer.

"Hey, John," she said.

"Hello Jess. I see you're back. Surprise, surprise. May I say you look lovely tonight," he said in a loud booming voice.

"Why thank you. But, I'm not here alone tonight. It's my friend, Alexis', birthday today," she said gesturing towards us.

"Well then, I hope you all have a lovely time," he said opening the door for us and allowing us inside. The girls went straight to the bar and ordered a shot for each of us.

"C'mon Alexis drink up," Jess said handing me the alcohol. I looked at it warily but drank the shot quickly with my friends. It burned down my throat but gave me a warm feeling in my gut. Ava ordered another round and it kept going on like this until we were all at least a little drunk. Jess and Ava were on the dance floor dancing on some guys but Mary was still next to me as we talked a little slurred. I spotted a guy across the bar. He was really cute. He had a soft, almost baby, looking face and shaggy brown hair. I could see him looking at me and it made butterflies erupt in my tummy.

"Alexis, are you listening to me," Mary said snapping me out of my little day dream. I nodded.

"What are you looking at anyways," Mary said turning in her seat to see what I was looking at, but the guy wasn't there anymore. She gave me a confused look as she turned around.

"Hey babe. I was wondering if I could buy a drink for you," the guy who I was looking at earlier said with a light smirk. He was now standing next to me and he definitely was cuter closer up.

"Alexis would love one," Mary said smirking and walking away.

"So, how 'bout it. Can I buy you a drink?" he asked again sitting on the bar stool that was occupied by Mary a few seconds ago.

"Sure," I said. He nodded and ordered us something. I didn't really pay attention to what he ordered though.

"I didn't quite catch your name," I said to him as he turned back around towards me.

"That's because I haven't told you yet," He said laughing.

"I'm, Liam," he said extending his hand.

"Alexis," I said as we shook hands. We continued to talk throughout the night and we did end up drinking quite a bit. By the end of the night we were both stumbling out of the club.

"Can I call you a cab," Liam asked slightly slurring. I nodded not trusting anything intelligent to actual leave my mouth. Once the cap got there I sent Mary a text saying I got a ride home. When we entered the cab I began to feel very tired from all the alcohol. I laid my head down on his lap as I looked up at him.

"You're gorgeous," I said and then giggled at my silly words.

That was the last thing I remembered. I must've passed out in the cab. I was finally able to open my eyes to the painfully bright light. The walls around me were blaringly white. I looked around confused and spotted Liam sitting in a chair near the bad. I heard the beating of a heart monitor and realized that I was in the hospital. Liam stirred in his chair and when he saw me I could see the relief in his eyes.

"Alexis, I can't believe you're okay. How're you feeling? Do you want me to call the nurse?" he asked quickly.

"What happened last night," I said rubbing my face with my hands trying to rid myself of this headache. Liam looked at me sympathetically and grabbed my left hand.

"Alexis, I don't know how to tell you this but you were in a car accident last night. The guy in the other car was drunk and he hit you. You're lucky to be alive," he said with so much emotion swirling in his eyes.

"How are you okay? Is the cab driver okay?" I asked. Liam looked at me with confusion.

"What do you mean? I wasn't in the car, Alexis. What cab driver are you talking about?" he asked.

"The one that was driving us home last night. You know after we left the bar?" I said

"We weren't at the bar last night we were at home when you went out to get something for dinner," he replied looking even more confused.

"Why would we be having dinner together we just met last night?" I said getting even more confused than him.

"Alexis, how old are you?" he asked seriously.

"Seventeen. Wait, no. I'm eighteen, yesterday was my birthday," I stated.

"No Alexis, it wasn't. Your birthday was last month," he said.

"Wait, so I don't remember a month of my life," I said slightly upset.

"No babe it gets worse than that. Last month we celebrated your twenty-first birthday," he says carefully. I freeze in shock not wanting to believe the words that came out of his mouth. I've forgotten three years of my life. I look at him hoping for him to say this is a joke. He squeezes my hand with a sad look in his eye. What am I going to do?
