When I was eating a certain food which contains a lot of onions, my best friend told me that onions stimulate sexual desire. I retorted with a question of how onions increase libido level. She merely shrugged and told me it's scientifically proven. She even said that there's a lot of researches online that supports her statement. So I researched about it and according to a legitimate medical and health website, IT'S NOT.
Historically, Aztecs considered onions a powerful aphrodisiac whereas, in Europe, they believed that potatoes, carrots, seed, bulb vegetables like onions and a juice of asparagus contain sexual enhancement. They resemble bulb veggies as testicles and thought it would affect a man's potency. In fact, monks are forbidden to eat onions because they believed that it provokes a feeling of passion. It stirs emotions and seen as a hindrance in their meditation.
But since we're living in a 21' st century and science is prevailing, numerous studies have tested that belief and none of the stated foods above truly stimulate sex and boost sexual performance. However, researchers argued that certain food can become aphrodisiac if believed that it truly enhances sexual performance. In short, it will become a true aphrodisiac through the placebo effect.
Having optimistic anticipation can have a positive impact on the individual's performance. For instance, if you perceived a banana as your partner's private part then it can heighten your sexual mood; and believing that onions can increase sexual stamina can have a high possibility that it will happen.
Though, none of the foods is a true aphrodisiac but can be done through believing that it is. If you think it can have a big impact on your performance then go ahead and enjoy eating it. Sometimes, we have to fake it till you make it. ;)
