gabe.
watching sam work was my favorite thing to do. it was cute. i adored the way his eyebrows furrowed just slightly when he was concentrating. he usually rested his free hand, if he had one, under his cheek, making one eye squint.
"gabe, you're staring again." he said monotonously without looking up from the laptop screen.
i cracked a small smile. "just enjoying the view."
sam blushed, attempting to hide it under his hands.
it amazed me that i had the ability to fall in love with someone so strongly. my love for him flowed through my veins; it kept me alive. before i met him, i was just surviving. now i truly felt like i had a purpose again, as cheesy as that sounds. jot that down on the list of things i will never say out loud.
"can you put on some music or something? i can't concentrate with all this silence." he said suddenly.
"you do it." i replied.
"noooo," he whined. "i always pick the music. i wanna hear something that you listen to."
"fine, you big baby." i conceded. i pulled out my phone, connected it to the bluetooth speaker, and shuffled my playlist. the first thing to play was 'heartbreaker' by led zeppelin. a classic.
sam started swaying his upper body slightly to the beat. i started singing the lyrics dramatically.
"her style is new, but the face the same,
as it was so long ago
but from her eyes, a different smile
like that of one who knows"i played the air guitar and flipped my hair and really just put on a performance for sam. every time he chuckled, it fueled me to do something even more dramatic and funny. by the time the guitar solo came on, i was standing on the desk and really getting into it. i was careful not to accidentally step on something important, but every time i looked down at sam he kept glancing at the vulnerable laptop in between laughs.
the song ended and i struck a dramatic pose before jumping back down off of the desk. sam shook his head in mock disapproval, his eyes sparkling and his face red. the familiar notes of the next song started filling the room, and i couldn't help but sing along.
"you know i'm a dreamerrrrr, but my heart's of gooooold, i had to run away hiiigh, so i wouldn't come home lowww." i sang as i overacted my movements, turning my face away as if i was gazing longingly into the distance.
sam busted up laughing, doubling over and clutching his sides as the sound of his joy blended with the music playing.
my favorite sound.
i moved towards him as he began to sober up, sitting up straight in the chair and wiping stray tears that had escaped from his eyes. he looked up at me with that smile, that special, beautiful smile that he saved only for me. the one that he didn't even know he was saving. i couldn't help but lean down and kiss him.
it was chaste and short, but it still held all of the love in the world. i could never go back on that. i loved sam winchester. even if i was facing my own problems elsewhere, knowing that sam would always be there for me was enough to keep me going day by day. how could i ever express these complex emotions to the man i love?
