Ocean of tears

Before poor Alice knew it there was barely room left for him to move. “Oh dear!” Alice proclaimed, his voice booming and echoing off of the walls of the hall. “I’ve been such a fool,” he said scolding himself, “If only I hadn’t been so stupid and acted so rash I wouldn’t have made such a fool of myself.” Alice began to cry, no longer able to contain his tears, each big tear plopping onto the ground below. He cried until a puddle had formed around him.

Alice felt something bump up against his leg, softly tapping him. He stopped crying and saw a small bottle floating in the water. Alice picked it up and looked at the small tag attached. It was another bottle with the words “drink me” written on it.

“I’ll try not to mess up this time.” Said Alice as he hastily grabbed the key from the table and consumed the blue liquid inside. Alice began to shirk, smaller and smaller, and the body of water soon reached Alice’s chin. “Where am I?” Alice asked as he looked around, no longer able to see the great hall.

Alice saw a mouse swim by, struggling to stay afloat. Soon enough Alice’s feet could no longer reach the floor. “No wonder the poor mouse is struggling to stay afloat,” he thought, “this must be an ocean!” Alice saw a variety of strange creatures struggling to swim in the deep ocean around them. Alice was able to identify most of them; dodo, a flamingo, a monkey, and some other unrecognizable creatures. “What was that creature over there?”Alice said to himself “Perhaps a gryphon? But those weren’t even real, and what was that odd creature over there?”

A series of boats began to float towards them, emerging from the mist, and the animals began to crawl onto them. Alice climbed onto one of these boats as they sailed past him and bean to float to shore. The boat was unsteady as Alice had to continuously shift and balance it simply to stay afloat. Finally the boat reached the shore and Alice got off, pulling the boat onto land.

As Alice was just arriving on shore the animals began to form a circle. As Alice got closer, it appeared that the animals were all sitting around an old, brown mouse. The animals began to chant, “Tell us a story! Please, tell us a story!” Alice walked towards the odd looking group, hoping to get some directions, when the animals noticed him getting closer. “Look, a new comer!” said one of the animals, a cheery looking door mouse pointing.

“What a queer looking one, I’ve never a creature quite like that.” Said another.

“What is she?” asked one the smaller mice.

“Or he.”

“Now shush you.” Said Alice as he walked up to the group.
“It speaks!”

“Now there is nothing queer about me,” said Alice, scolding the group. “I’m not odd looking, and that’s not a very nice thing to say. Furthermore, I’m not a creature, nor am I a girl.”

“Then what are you?” Chimed the dodo.
“I’m a boy.” said Alice.

“No you’re not!” shouted the dodo, “You’re wearing a dress!”

“And what does that have to do with anything?” said Alice, getting rather fed up at this point. The animals began to talk all at once.

“And you have a girl’s voice.”

“She’s got breasts too!”

“They’re quite small but you’re right!”

“What kind of boy has a bosom?”

“A girl, that’s who!”

“Stop it!” yelled Alice, tears swelling in his eyes, “I’m a boy not a girl!”

“Who are you?” asked the dodo.

“I-“Alice began to speak but realized he didn’t know the answer to the dodo’s question. “I don’t know…” said Alice as a cascade of tears slid down his rosy cheeks.
