A golden sunlight rises, filling the sky with blue, pink, and purple hues. Daybreak, the rising of the sun, the time when the gays begin to fear being seen. Like vampires, the gays thrive in the nighttime where no one can see. The moon shining above, and the stars dancing around it freely. The nighttime is my favorite time of day, for this very reason. It's the time where the whole world gets dark, and it's like anything can happen. Some are afraid of it, but some look forward to the new experiences it can bring. I don't shut my eyes when the lights go off, I always try to find a way to get where I'm going, even if I can see. If I gave up when it got dark, then I wouldn't get anywhere. So now, as I walk into this courtroom, I won't let the fear overwhelm me. I won't fear the dark, I won't fear the light, I need to be fearless, so that's what I'll be.
"Welcome everyone! Please be seated!" The judge bangs her gavel, signaling everyone to sit. "Today, the case of Michael vs Gabriel with be in session. The plaintiff Michael is attempting to abolish Gay Heaven, the defendant's personal heaven due to it being built on a sin, therefore making it illegal activity," the judge reads.
"That opening statement sounded like a bad joke," I mutter to Gabriel. We sit side by side, I'm closer to the judge than he is. Both of us dressed in a fancy suit that Callisto and Alejandro picked out. I'm wearing a navy blue suit with a maroon tie, and brown dress shoes. Gabriel is in a light gray suit with a matching tie so he can appear like a perfectly professional and harmless person.
"Unfortunately it's not, and this could be life or death for me!" he whispers.
"Not life or death, but it does have some drastic consequences," I mumble back.
He lets out an anxious sigh. "You sure you're ready?"
"I studied almost every second I could, and put together a thorough argument. I should be okay. I can't guarantee any result, but I have a solid argument."
He nods his head like a bobble head. "Let's hope this will work."
I turn to him with a raised eyebrow. "I thought you were the one saying I was overreacting. Now you're acting like I'm going to fail, that doesn't make me feel too good!" I whisper aggressively.
"Sorry, I'm just really nervous. I believe in you, I do. Just please, win this." I know he doesn't mean to make me worry, he's just stressed. This is a big deal, for so many people. In some way, it's out of his control, so he can't do much to help it. It's all on me, he has to trust in me, who just came here a week ago. I would be nervous too if all my faith was on that guy I knew for a week.
"I will, I promise. I'm going to save everyone, and you too. I mean, you opened up everything to me and gave me a place to belong. You opened up a home, your heart, and even some of your past to me. All these things made me feel special, more than you'll ever know. I realized that this is where I was meant to be, and it's where I want to be," I whisper with a genuine smile.
He puts on a dumb smile. "Sorry I doubted you. I know you're going to be great."
"We can only hope, but I'll try my best," I shrug with a smile.
The case begins, starting with the plaintiff's lawyer opening statement. The lawyer defending Michael is a woman with short blonde locks. It's a little sad that it's not just straight males against the gays. I guess homophobes come in all shapes and sizes.
"My client has brought up a large concern that has been troubling not only him, but the entire world of heaven. A heaven based of a sin, a sin! This is unheard of! Rewarding the sinful with a life of happiness and paradise? Why are we preaching sin now? This is basically the hell on heaven! It is embarrassing, and it is against our morals! A man and woman are the only ones that can love, that's how it's always been. The gays have always been bitter, jealous, and angry people that lash out at everything. The act out, and it's not safe for the people of Heaven. Especially, the children. We want everyone in all the heavens to to be safe!My client is an established ruler of another heaven that practiced the highest order of virtue. He knows how heaven should look, and how to make everyone at happy. He knows how to make people safe. He only wants the best for all. He does not seek to destroy, he only seeks to bring justice!"
