CHAPTER FOUR:
ONE NIGHT

Kataline seemed like a stranger in this house. Katherine was have the brothers to herself, charming Giuseppe to the brim. Unlike before, it seemed as though Katherine could handle this all on her own. Kataline kept herself busy with books and Emily's company, but something was bugging her.

The boys seemed completely smitten with her, yet they didn't seem bother by the fact that they were both going to bed with her. It wasn't hard to hear them through the walls, but maybe she just planned it well. Kataline so badly wanted to ask, yet she chickened out anytime she saw her sister.

Kataline held her necklace, knowing just breaking it would cause her to age the years she'd cheated. She'd thought about it many times, about the life she could've had if Katherine hadn't screwed it up. The life they could have both had.

"Penny for your thoughts?" Stefan's voice was quiet. He sat next to her, seeing her saddened eyes. Kataline sighed, looking into Stefan's eyes. Maybe he was different. Maybe Katherine hadn't gotten to him. Maybe he could...

"I'm thinking about home." She admits.

"Home is where?" He asks, leaning closer. "England. Only until we were seven." Kataline lies, knowing better than to speak the truth. "Though we were there for a short time, our family is there."

Stefan smiles, his eyes on her enclosed jewelry. "Was that a gift?" She looked to the necklace. She nodded. "Katherine gave it to me. A birthday gift."

"You two are close." He confirms. "She's all I have left." Not meaning for it to slip, Stefan says nothing. He cautiously reaches for her hand, holding it softly. Kataline looks to their hands, can't help but smiling. It felt nice, holding someone's hand.

"Can I ask you something?" It was a risk, and invasive, but she needed to know. Stefan nodded. "Anything." Kataline turned to him. "You and--Katherine. Hi." Her soster approached, an eyebrow arched towards the two.

Regretfully, she pulled her hand away from Stefan's, who only smiled to Katherine. "I was looking for you." She directed to Stefan. "I was hoping you would be able to come with me to town." Less a question, more of a statement.

Stefan glanced at Kataline, who only stared at her hands. He was curious towards her question, yet it was hard to say no to Katherine.  "Sure." Stefan stands. "I'll see you tonight." It was a promise. Kataline nodded with a tight smile, staying seated.

They were wrapped around her finger. Kataline was jealous, she could admit that. Katherine always had the fun, always reckless. Kataline was always keeping her out of trouble, all because she cared whether they were caught or not. It wasn't fair.
