CHAPTER FIVE:
NO MORE LIES

Kataline sat on the steps of the manor, watching as the sun shone through the trees with a soft glow. It warmed her as a slight breeze flowed. Giuseppe's words haunted her. He knew. George Lockwood knew. It was only a matter of time before they came after Katherine.

She didn't know what to do, though there wasn't really anything she could do. Katherine was handling this in the worst way. Its like she wanted to get caught. But for three three hundred years of running, why now?

"You're moping." Katherine stand above her, an etch of concern. First time she'd really payed attention to her sister in weeks.

"Kind of. I'm going to miss it here." Katherine then sat down. "What do you mean?"

"Well the town is closing in. Giuseppe assumes I know of vampires. We are leaving...aren't we?" Kataline was now concerned. Katherine didn't respond right away.

"Katerina." Kataline's accent slipped slightly as she spoke her name. "Don't." Katherine's eyes darkend quickly. "I've got it under control. We aren't leaving." Kataline hated not being able to fight back with her sister, got knows they wouldn't be as close as they were had Kataline become a vampire.

"I don't understand. How is now any different than last time?" Kataline's voice raised slightly. "You mess up and I'm having to leave behind the whole life I'd created for myself. That's how it's always been." Katherine suddenly whisked the both of them away from the house.

They stopped at the outskirts of a forest. "Everything I've ever done has been for us." She countered. "Wrong. Only for you. You could have left me in England, I was happy, for the first time in a long time."

"I couldn't just leave you. I need you. You're my sister." Katherine touched her shoulder. "They could have used you against me. Could've hurt you." Kataline shook her head. "No. He loved me. I don't believe he would have done that."

"It doesn't matter what he might have thought. He hates us both now, and you are especially special now. Now let's drop this." Katherine grew tired of this conversation, one that had been on hold for so long that it almost seemed stupid to bring up now.

Kataline gave up, letting Katherine walk ahead of her, draggijg her feet dow the pebbled path towards the house once more. Katherine was more secretive and irritable in this town.

Kataline made it to the house, spotting Stefan out on the patio. She spotted the bottle of rum hidden by his side. She trudged up, slipping her hand between his and the bottle, taking it from his grasp. Taking a large sip, she made a face. "Wow, I can't remember the last time I drank something this strong."

Stefan chuckled. "Try the borbon, strongest drink in the house." He took the bottle, a quick swig tossed. "Rough day?"

"Rough life." She slipped before taking another sip. She couldn't remember the last time she was able to drink something stronger than water. Centuries ago.
