Be careful who you open up to.. Only a few people actually care.. The rest just want to have something to gossip about..
CHAPTER TWO- CRUEL WORLD
The bright sun above Ra'eesah was so unendurable that it almost reflected the hell she was going through on her mind.. "Only if she was here with me".. She said as a silent sob escaped her lips..
"Allahumma-ghfir laha war hamha" she prayed..This world is full of cruel people.. She said in her mind as she crossed the road..
People were setting for the day..Going to Kaduna State University has now turned to a daily routine for Ra'eesah..
This country is turning into something else.. The riches get what they want at their desired time, while the poor have to suffer..
"Salaam Alaykum" Ra'eesah greetet the people as she waited for her turn to round up her registration..
"Daddy".. She gently called as she pushed the iron door..
"How are you my dear"? He wrote on a paper passing it to her..
"I'm fine dad, I'm done with the registration" she wrote and passed back..
"Alhamdulillah.. I can't wait to see my shining star going to school.. Make sure you concentrate.. No keeping bad companies" Aleeyu wrote again and passed it his daughter..
"Insha Allah Mi hero.. Where is "she"? Ra'eesah asked..
"She travelled"
Oh Yaa Allah.. This is woman is too wicked.. How can she just travel and leave this man all alone? This is just too bad.. After seeing the condition he's in.. Ra'eesah thought as she wiped her tears...
Speaking about SHE, her father was forced to remarry when she was six years old..
And that was the beginning of her rough life..
"What about the twins? They went together? She finally wrote.
"Yes" he replied curtly..
"Time for sleep.. Bye dad. See you in the night".. With that, she walked out and headed to her room..
Entering her room, she prayed her Asr obligatory prayer and rounded off with two nafls.. As she prayed for her dear parents.. Her mother to continue rest in peace, and grant shifaa to her dearest father.. Then begged to Allah Subhaanahu wa Ta'ala to ease her sufferings..
When she was three, she had nothing to worry about.. Sorrouded by loving parents.. But a complete turn around was the day she lost the precious person to her.. Even though she was so little, the memories still haunted.. The sight of her mother being wheeled to the emergency room.. Then later the doctors announced her MOTHER'S death to her dad..
How depressed he was..
How her one and only caring paternal grandmother died..
How her dad was forced into marrying another woman in the name of taking care of little Ra'eesah
How her dad got paralyzed and couldn't speak nor walk
How her stepmother got the opportunity to maltreat her and her dad...
The fifteen years she faced without her mother was hell!"Ya rabbi ease my pain" she silently prayed as tears made their way down her cheeks..
"Only if she was here".. She sobbed hard.Moving to her study area, she picked up one of the letter her mother had written for her and started reading it again.. And it read..
Hey Maami's pwinshesh.. How are you doing today? Good I suppose.. Ra'eesah darling, you see, this world is a temporary place.. We all come to live temporarily and then go back to our permanent home.. This world is full of ups and downs.. Full of cruel people But with prayers, you'll conquer. Never let what people say or do affect you. If you know what you are doing is right, then go ahead and do it!
I might or might not have the ability to watch you you grow.. But if I die, please do pray for my soul.. Your daddy loves you so much and I have no iota of doubt that he'll take good care of you. Success awaits you inshaa Allah!
Forgive me for not witnessing you grow into the beautiful Journalist you'll be.. Bi'iznillaah..Forgive me for not telling you I had cancer.. You are my princess and would always be..I love you my shining armor.
Yours loving, UmmRa'eesahBy the time she was done reading the letter, she was crying real hard. Rabbigh fir Ummii.. She prayed..
Katsina
"Mommy I can't find my black leggings" Saabirah shouted from the room..
"Check my blue handbag" Mommy retorted..
"Why aren't you getting Saajida?" Saabirah asked her twin sister..
"I'm not going" she answered dry
"But why?" Saabirah further asked.."Just because".. Saajida retorted walking out of the room..
"Mama do you think what you are doing is good?" Saajida asked her mother..
"Excuse me?" Mommy raised a brow..
"Mommy how can we just travel and leave uncle Aleeyu with Ra'eesah? Isn't it your duty as his wife to take good care of him? With what will Ra'eesah Cope? Her father's Illness or school? You really have to wake up from your deep slumber because......
The slap Saajida recieved from her mother was what stopped her mid way..
"You have no right to talk to me this this way Saajida! Don't ruin my mood for goodness sake.. I'm about to attend a friend's birthday party.. And I don't care if you are not going" Mommy lectured..
"May God deliver you" Saajida uttered exiting the house.
Mommy is Ra'eesah's wicked stepmother who treats her so badly.. She used her charms to make Aleeyu's family force him into marrying her..
Zuwaira, known as Mommy hails from Katsina state.. A divorcee with two children, which Ra'eesah's mates .. Saabirah and Saajida (twins).. While Saabirah posses each and every habit of her mother, Saajidah is the opposite:calm, gentle, God fearing and all..
She always help Ra'eesah with the house chores when her mother is not at home.. Despite all the house maids, Mommy makes sure Ra'eesah does all the work.. Be it cooking, washing clothes, doing dishes, sweeping and what not..
"When did mommy said we are going back"? Saajida asked her twin
"Upper week" Saabirah replied typing away on her phone.
No Way! I'm going back to Kaduna today. You can die and decompose here for all I care! Saajida informed her twin sister as she dashed out of the house dragging her small kit behind..
"Come back!" Mommy yelled but to no avail..
Yay or nay? Feel free to say your minds.. Criticism is not allowed.
