Chapter One
“Please Willow, please just don’t do anything stupid! You didn’t know Peter that well, you don’t know what he could’ve been hiding! He could have a secret wife he never told you about. Maybe he just felt guilty because he had left her with her unborn child! Who knows? Think rationally please!”
“Becca, you didn’t see how he looked at me. He was so genuine, so honest! No man could have been so passionate and true if he was hiding a secret life behind him.”
“Little sis, how do you explain his big dramatic completely OUT OF THE BLUE run away..”
“It must have been important.”
“Stop kidding yourself it’s been two months! There has been no mention of him since! No text, call, email…nothing!”
“But I love him.”
By this stage I was pretty annoyed at my big sisters interference. I knew Peter had been true and I knew it must have been something drastically serious for him to run off without explanation! We had loved eachother for a year and he had told me so many times I hadn’t doubted his trust ever until now. I would never have admitted it to Becca. I can just see her I-told-you-so face already where her lips pucker and her eyes turn into slits. Peter and I were best friends he told me everything and he hardly would have left out such a major detail as a secret life!
“Look where love got me.”
I looked at my sister, the last six months had really failed her. Her face was pale and her body was very thin and her eyes constantly looked dreary. The divorce had been tough on her and Julie.
I smiled sadly and took her hands.
“You need to get out again Becs! You’ve spent too long in this house alone! You need to go meet more men.”
“Oh Willow, all men are the same.”She sighed and looked at the picture of Derek and Julie on the wall. She felt just because she hated Derek, Julie shouldn’t be forced to feel the same way. Julie went to visit her father every Saturday and that is how Becca and I got some alone time.
“No changing the subject now, so if you’re so fixed on finding Peter, which is insane but anyway, where are you going to start?”
I looked down at my hands and sighed deeply to myself. I had no idea where to start.
“What about his mother?” Becca asked.
“Ive tried calling her but she hasn’t picked up.”
“Right lets go make a visit to Mrs Edwards then.”
I looked at Becca as if she had gone mad.
“I thought you thought this was a bad idea..” I looked inquisitively at my sister.
“I do but I love you and you seem pretty set on this idea and plan so I may as well help you”
I wrapped my arms around Becca’s neck and gave her a tight hug. Tears filled my eyes with appreciation for what my sister was about to do for me.
“Now don’t go all sobby on me, I get enough of that from Mum.”
Becca stood up from the sofa we had been sitting on and carried our mugs over to the kitchen. She grabbed her keys and walked towards the door. She looked back at me expectantly.
“You coming or what?”
I lifted myself off the sofa and made my way towards the door.
