Chapter Three
“He called her Lauren? There is definitely something weird going on.”
“Maybe he just forgot her name, Becca, don’t always look on people so negatively you don’t know her like I do.”
I was sick of standing up for the Edwards. More and more doubts were slowly creeping in about Peter. What if he wasn’t really who he said he was. Tonight I would get more information.
“So how are you planning on doing this? Just sneak in the back window with a balaclava?”
I chuckled at the thought of me probably landing head first into the house.
“Well I was thinking of asking Derek for some help if you didn’t mind. He’s had experience in this type of stuff, right?”
“Willow!”
Becca had a look of shock and humour over her face.
“Darling he’s a lock smith, not a criminal. But yea I’d say he would help you but he’s not coming over here, no way! Oh and watch he doesn’t try and get with you..you know his past record with vulnerable, pretty girls.
I gave her a pretend scowl and shook my head.
“His numbers over there if you want to call him!”
I walked over and dialled the number before I could rethink what I was about to do.
Ring Ring Ring
“Helloooo?”
“Hi, Derek?”
“Willow! How are you? Heard about Peter, what an ass! Look if you need to get out and meet new guys I have a few pals who I could set you up with, no problem!”
“Derek..”
“And no,no they’d only be a minimum of five years older, matures better ha-ha yea?”
“Derek I don’t want a date.”
“Ahh still in the mourning period? You Davies girls really need to learn how to cut short on the heartbreak time.”
“Look, it doesn’t matter I’ll get someone else to help.”
“Here, here do you want something?”
“Yes actually, Derek, it’s what I’m calling about. I need your locksmith talents tonight.”
“Why didn’t you just say so! You locked out again?”
“Not exactly, no. I need you to help me get into a house.”
“Oh wow Willow wouldn’t put you down as a going to jail type!”
“Ha ha well it’s for a good reason. Something weird is going on over at Marcia Edwards house and I need to get in, silently. You up for it?”
“Eh checking up on your ex’s mum is a bit past strange don’t you think?”
“It’s for a good reason! You in or are you out?”
“Anything for you Lowie.”
“Thanks, I really appreciate it Derek. I’ll text you the details.”
I put the receiver down and sighed. I was actually going to do this. I couldn’t let all those unwanted doubts about Peter float around in my head without proving them wrong.
“Oh so he decided to take his head out of his ass and help you?”
“Looks like it.”
I really felt sorry for Becca having to be married to such a sleeze as Derek. His personality was revolting and my pride was taken down a few notches by asking him to help out tonight. Whatvever possessed Becca to love a man so fake and arrogant for seven years was past me but she had a beautiful daughter out of the marriage so I guess that was one good thing that came out of their marriage.
“Now you take control tonight and don’t do anything stupid.”
I barely looked back as I walked out the door. A plan was brewing in my mind.
