Chapter Six

I blinked hard and quickly shot up and stared around me. A deep pain shot through my head and I winced at the sharpness. A bright deafening white surrounded me and I lay in stiff white sheets. I wriggled to free myself from the clutches of the horrible sheets. As I scanned the room I saw a small bedside locker with a bunch of flowers and a card neatly placed on top. I also saw a window and the bright sun shone through making the atmosphere light. I looked to my other side and saw some kind of machine and I panicked. I kicked at the sheets and screamed in distress and confusion.

A small woman dressed in even more white ran darted inside the door. Her hair was pulled back and her eyes were jolly.

“Everything okay?”

I glared at the small woman.

“Where am I? What happened?”

The woman walked over to my side and stroked my hair as if I were a child.

“You’re in hospital. You blanked out. It was a major migraine. Marcia Edwards brought you in. She’s coming in later if you would like to see her.”

Everything hit me. Peter.

“She left a note for you, love.”

She passed me a small piece of paper. Three small words stung me and moved me and I breathed deeply.

It was real.

So it was real.

I needed an explanation, some kind of assurance that although I knew nothing of the real Peter, that we shared a common bond, love.

“Hey Willow.”

Marcia looked sheepishly round the door.

“I’m so sorry that was so selfish of me I know it was a lot to take in.”

I nodded and held the note safely to my heart.

She walked over and stood beside me with a sorry look on her face. I took her hand to show her that it was okay.

“Did you send this?”

I showed her the note and she took it into her hand. She smiled slightly.

“It’s from him.”

I gasped.

He did love me.

He was still alive and he was watching me from afar.

But he loved me.

Determination set in my heart and I knew that I must find him. He never told me not to look for him.

“I just came to tell you what only he just told you in his own words. I knew it was real. I’ve never seen anyone look so in love before. He was captivated by you, Willow.”

I smiled.

“But I was thinking about everything last night and I realised something that you may not want to hear.”

“Tell me,” I said abruptly.

“Well CIA agents aren’t allowed to get emotionally involved..”

“It’s my fault.”

My heart dropped as I realised I could have been the reason Peter was in trouble.

“Well hun, he didn’t act professionally either. He knew what he was doing. He really did love you.”

I remembered back to the night Peter and I lay on the grass and stared up at the stars. He had taken my hand and breathed,

“You are so beautiful.”

I recollected how special he had made me feel and when he whispered three words into my ear I felt as if I were soaring with the stars.

“And Willow todays the day I leave.”

I looked up at this dainty woman who had become a friend over the past year. My eyes filled with tears as she knelt down and hugged me tightly.

“I cannot tell you were I am going or if I will ever see you again but I want to tell you, don’t stop searching.”

She grabbed my hand and tucked a piece of paper into my fist. She kissed my forehead and smiled sadly at me with tired eyes.

“You are so brave.”

She left silently and I shed a few quiet tears. Then I glanced down at the note. It held letters and numbers that I didn’t understand and I cried in confusion.

Then I saw the same handwriting from Peter’s note.

You’ll figure it out.
