A Safe Place

Chapter Five

While she was getting a check up I was sitting there worried, I had no idea what could be wrong with her. After a few more minutes I was told what was wrong, apparently she was suffering from a withdrawal that can happen if the mother abuses drugs while pregnant. It was potentially fatal so she would need to stay at the hospital for a few days to help her get better and make sure she's not getting worse and as far as they could tell it wasn't as bad as it could be and she would be fine; however, they couldn't know for sure since her symptoms were only just beginning.

I stayed there with Samantha for a little while longer before I headed back to the house, when I got there I walked to the living room and sat down on the couch, everyone else had gone out on their cases so I was alone for a few hours until Paige and Charlie got back. When they got back I was still on the couch, not really aware of how long it had been. "What was wrong?" Paige asked me as they came in the living room to talk to me.

"Well she's going through a withdrawal, I guess her mom relapsed shortly before Samantha was born. It could be bad......they don't know yet....she has to stay there to get better" I explained.

"That's horrible " Paige stated.

"I'm sorry Mike" Charlie said.
