Moni Pov
It's been almost a month since that mess with Dewayne... and honestly, I think he's learned his little lesson. 😏
He toned it down—not all the way, but enough for me to notice. His hoes ain't been all over him like before. His playas card still active, but he ain't swipin' it as much, if you feel me. Not that I'm trippin'. Cuz if I wanted to, one text and Terrance would be over here diving face-first into my goodie box. Okur! But nah... he hasn't been over since the first time.
Anyway. Enough about him. 🙄
I've been straight. Got a job working at the same Starbucks where I first met Dewayne. The pay ain't really hittin', but I ain't pressed—I got stacks on stacks, I'm just tryna keep a low profile. Anthony's still on my line though. Three threatening voicemails. I haven't told Dewayne. Don't plan to either.
Anthony is my problem.

"Girl, I'm glad I got yo ass working here with me," Aisha says, handing me a cup.
I laugh while pouring the mocha frappe into it. Aisha's like my Starbucks twin—caramel skin, long hair, same height. We could pass for sisters on a good day. We clicked the minute I turned in my app. She the one who told Denise, the manager, to go ahead and hire me.
"Cuz that chickenhead Kimberly?" she continues, rolling her eyes. "I caught her stealin' from the register last week."
"Girl, forreal?" I say, handing her the order. I glance at the clock.
Five more minutes. Then I'm outta here.
"Mocha frappe, two shots espresso!" Aisha calls.
A teenage girl grabs the drink, napkins and all. I start wiping down my station, getting my area tight so I can bounce at exactly the right moment.
"So we hittin' the club tonight?" Aisha asks, cleaning the front counter.
This girl's been tryna get me to pop out with her for weeks now. Since I'm still new in town, she says it's time I start living a little.
"Girl, I don't know..." I smile, folding up my apron.
"Why? Cuz you gon' be with Dewayne?" she says, giving me the side-eye.
Yeah, she know about Dewayne. When she first saw me with him, she tried to warn me. Said he got a reputation. I let her know I already knew what kind of man he was and that we ain't together. After that, we been cool ever since.
Honestly, she reminds me of my sister Somon... they would've vibed for sure.
"I don't really got plans with him, but he's picking me up," I say, pulling off my Starbucks hat and running my fingers through my hair.
He been busy working some big case, so we haven't chilled as much lately.
Ding-a-ling. The door chimes.
I look up—and speak of the devil.
Dewayne strolls in like he owns the damn place, fitted grey muscle shirt stretching across his chest, black shorts, and Nike slides. Clean-cut, smelling expensive, looking like a whole forbidden snack.
"Mmmh," Aisha says with a smirk. "Tell him we goin' out tonight."
I smile at her as she heads to the register, then turn back to Dewayne as he steps up to the counter.
