Yukhei parked the patrol car in the lot of a small, retro-looking cafe. He and Jeno were on their way back to the station but decided to stop and grab a bite to eat. After the hectic day the officers had, the two relished in the thought of relaxing at a homely restaurant.
Jeno looked around as they stepped into the cafe. The place was almost empty, the only people there being an elderly couple and a trio of teenagers.
The ravenette squinted at the group of teens, two of them looking mildly familiar, although he could only see the back of one of them.
"Hey, isn't that one of the kids we talked to the other day?" Yukhei questioned, eyes signaling towards a peachy-headed boy shoving a fry in his mouth.
"I'm not sure," Jeno mumbled, trying to shake off the familiarity as he led Yukhei to a booth.
Throughout their meal, Jeno eyed the back of the brunette boy's head. He knew he had seen them before, but he just couldn't place who it was. It was killing him, as he racked his brain for any indication as to who it could be. His brain twisted around every single detail of the situation, except the fact that the same head of brown hair was with the orange-headed boy not very long ago.
In the midst of Jeno's pondering, the orange-haired boy looked up and made direct eye contact with the officer. The teen furrowed his eyebrows and said something unintelligible to the other two. No sooner had Jeno assessed that he just got caught staring that the brunette turned around and smirked when he realized what officer was eyeing them down.
Oh my god, of course, Jeno sighed in his mind. He wasn't going to think about how his heart sped up tenfold when the younger smirked at him.
"I'm going to go wash my hands, I'll be right back," Yukhei declared, paying zero attention to Jeno's horrified expression.
"Wai—" Jeno started, but it was no use. The older was already strolling across the cafe to find the restroom. Fantastic timing, Yukhei.
Of course, Jaemin was going to take advantage of the situation. His smirk grew into a smile as he immediately slid out of his booth and strutted towards Jeno's.
Jeno sighed as the brunette slinked into Yukhei's previous seat. The younger paid no attention to the officer's reaction as he propped his elbows upon the table.
"Long time no see, Officer Lee," the younger drawled, enjoying the pure horror on Jeno's face.
"That's a good thing," the officer mumbled back.
"So you didn't miss me?" Jaemin fake pouted.
"No, it means you've been staying out of trouble."
"Or maybe I've just not been getting caught," the brunette replied cockily.
"Right. Why are you over here?"
"Because Mark and Donghyuck were being too couple-y and because I wanted to see you," Jaemin answered simply. "Did you get new uniforms?"
Jeno internally screeched at how attentive the younger was, but quickly composed himself. "Yeah."
"Mm. I like it, it looks hot on you."
The ravenette couldn't keep his eyes from widening or his cheeks from heating up ever so slightly. "Don't say that."
"Why not?"
"I'm your elder, and I'm an officer."
"Since when do I give a fuck," Jaemin retorted.
