Vocaloid 101

Welcome to Vocaloid 101 of Otaku Magazine!

This month, I'll be talking about the song Cantarella, by Kaito Shion, the blue-haired ice cream addict that we all lover.

Cantarella itself, as a word, is believed to be a form of arsenic, which is to say the least, a form of poison.

So this song begins with Kaito singing about the girl he loves. This song is sung slightly as a duet with Hatsune Miku, so it's believed that the girl he is singing about is that much beloved teal-haired girl.

He sings of how she though acts calm and collected, he can tell she is infatuated, and that even a single wisp of his breath will get her hooked to him. He feels he must smother his true emotions underneath a false façade, otherwise she'll discover him for sure.

So Kaito sets up a trap to catch her and make her heart is. He tricks with her with nice words that seem sweet, sincere, and pure. And she believes him, letting her guard down.

The trap has been sprung. The cantarella has been drunk by the poor girl.

Miku belongs now to Kaito, and the more she tries to escape from the rusted chains, the more time she will spend in them. The smell of their mixed sweat will violate her and intoxicate her.

She thought she could handle the poison. She thought she could break free.

She thought she was strong enough.

But as Kaito showed us:

She thought false.

This song is short, but comes with a catchy beat, and if you simply search it up, you'll end up with quite a few depressing PVs that would be worth the watch.

People have portrayed Kaito in different positions through this song.

My favorite is a video where he and Miku are childhood friends, but aren't allowed to love each other. So he kills off her lover and kidnaps her, binding her.

But she forgives him.

And it's just about the sweetest video ever.

So now I'm asking YOU guys:

How do you think this song portrays Kaito?

If you haven't heard this vocaloid song yet, I right now and listen to it.

Okay, not right now, At least get through the magazine first.

But definitely give a try after you finish this issue!
