4.Because... you hate me

As I entered the hallway, the first thing I did was approach her. She was near the bleachers with a cigarette in her hands. I neared her and asked with all the daring I had, "Where were u last night?". "Why does that matter to u?", she asked non chalantly. "Why did u say a 'no' for coming to dine to my house last night?", I asked. She gave one of her young baby smiles which provoked my heart.

"Because... You and I very well know that how much you hate me and I am the last person you would want dine with.. Isn't it?", she asked. Is it real? She said a 'no' for me? "How did u know?", I asked. "It is obvious from your behavior... And it is quite common", she said and I felt embarrassed. I had been too busy hating her that I could never focus that everyone knows it.

Nearly everyone in the college hates her... Except her best friend Jiya... I guess how can someone bear her to be her friend?

"R u done with your investigation?", she snapped me out of my thoughts. I nodded a 'yes' before heading out. I looked back at her. She was looking at the floor with a serious expression. Bandages around most of her skin. "So... How was your meeting with Miss Bitch?", Sohail asked snaking an arm through my neck. "Crap crap crapety crap", I sang. He laughed.

"Let's go.. It's maths RN!", he announced. "Kay dude", I responded. As soon as I entered the room, my eyes fell first on the girl.. Okay now maybe I won't call her a bitch. She was not bad.... Just a bit... Annoying. I guess... How everyone hates her.

As soon as I placed myself on the bench, Saumya announced, "Guys... Tiara is taking us for camping.. Will u guys come?".

"Heck yes!" "Heck no!"

"C'mon darshan! Don't be a spoil sport.. Come.. It'll be fun!", Saumya said. "But..", before I could complete Sohail said, "No buts.. And ifs... You are going means you ARE going".

Boy... Can I ever say a no to him? Never.

"So.. We all are going camping this weekend", Saumya squeaked in excitement. "Who else are going?", I asked and she fell silent. "Saumya", I sternly called out for her. "Not many.. Just Vikas, Vidya, Sohail, I , you... And...", she stopped. "Agni", she said. "I am not going", I announced. "Gosh! That is why I never wanted to let u know who were going... Grow up boy! May be she isn't as bad as u think!", she assured me.

Tiara's minivan came up to my house to pick me up. I was standing there all ready to leave. "Yo boy! You have to sit at the back because some boys have 'reserved' the front seat", Tiara announced. Huffing, I went at the back.

Sohail and Saumya were sitting on opposite sides and well... Agni was sitting next to Sohail with her palms on her face and her legs shaking. I mentally pleaded Saumya to move aside... But she didn't. I had to sit near Agni.

Her head jerked up and she instantly asked, "Wanna sit here?". Girl... Thank you.. "Yup", I said not to sound desperate and we changed seats. Sohail gave me a look and started ranting. Soon Vidya and Vinas were also here. As soon as they got in, they were so engaged in their personal talks that I was disappeared from their mind. I looked at Agni who was looking out of the window with an innocent smile. Who can say that she is a bitch? I sometimes wonder why she would act like some bitch?

Once we got out, she lighted up a cigarette and started taking it up while others flexed their arms and legs to relax, she smoked to be relaxed. Whatever!

"Yo Ags... Will u mind helping Darshan to set up the tent?", Tiara asked. "Well... I am not in a mood ...", she said. Well... U never are..
Tiara laughed at the fact and then said, "Well... Everyone is correct.. You are a perfect bitch!". "Not more than you", she calmly replied. I guess... From where does she gets her comebacks. However... She reaches for the tent and starts setting it up. She has got good camping skills as well.

Soon it was twilight as we surrounded the bonfire with blankets covering us. If u are innocent... U should never come with these guys. Tiara making out with her boyfriend; Sohail and Vidya and the least expected Saumya and Vikas. I and Agni were only sitting. Feeling sick, I was going in when Tiara stopped me.

"Darshan... Will u mind staying with Ags?", she asked. "What? Why?", I asked astonished... I can't stay with her. "Bcoz... I and Vidya are sharing one tent... Tiara and her boyfriend and Saumya and her new boyfriend are sharing tents.. So u have to keep privacy bro!!", Sohail explained. I rolled my eyes and said, "Stay safe". I went into my tent and took out a book about to read it.

It was late enough for everyone to sleep but yet she wasn't here. Slowly and gradually.... I felt heavy and tensed. I went outside to check and she was sitting around the burnt out bonfire.. It was too cold outside and she was here. I went and sat near her. Her head snapped up. "You didn't sleep?", she asked. "No... U didn't come..", I replied. "Already thinking about me... I guess... Someone is in love with me...", she said. "Oh please... No one can fall in love with a bitch like you...", I retaliated which she shrugged off with a smile.

Hey! That's rude!

I know... But I can't help it. "You should sleep...", she calmly said. "Aren't you going to sleep?", I asked. "I don't know... If I feel sleepy... I will", she said holding her cigarette. "Oh... Okay", I said. "BTW... I got something for you..." , she stopped me. I turned around furrowing my brows and she handed over me a pair of lockets. "These are yin and yang charms.... I read somewhere that they hold great meaning... They are opposites yet together... In yin there is a bit of yang and in yang there is a bit of yin..", she explained. "Take these two lockets and if u feel like... U wear one and give the other to someone u love", she said running a hand through her hair. Why would she hand them to me?
If she loved me then she would keep one but she gave both.

"Why are you giving them to me?", I asked. "Because apparently.... I don't have or even can't have anyone special in my life.... So... It's safe with someone who can use it...", she said and a snake of guilt draped itself on my chest.

I guess... I hurt her.

"Why don't you catch some sleep?", she asked taking in her cigarette. "Uhh... Yeah..", I said before taking baby steps towards my tent. I don't know what got into my mind... I called her.

"Agni.."

"Yeah..", she looked at me and I gave her the black part of yang sign. I said, "Take it..".
She smirked and said, "I said to give it to someone whom u like nerdie... Not someone whom u hate...".

"I know... So.. I am giving it to u...", I said.

"What?? U love me??", she asked.

"Arre... No... It's just that I don't hate you...", I cleared myself and a teasing smirk played on her lips. She took it from me and shoved it in her pocket.

"Would you like me to put that on?", she asked pointing the yin sign. "Yeah.. Please", I said and she put it around my neck. I offered to put her locket but she denied.

I went inside the tent to sleep. I just kept thinking that why would she be so quiet around me but a loud girl in front of everyone? Was she trying to impress me or is she like that? There is no way she would try to impress me because 'I am not of her type'. Surely it must be the second reason... But why doesn't she show it to others?

I had closed my eyes and was sleeping upon my sleeping bag when I felt something pull over me. I opened my right eye to find her pulling a blanket over me. So thoughtful of her. Next, she lay down on her sleeping bag and soon she was in a deep slumber ... I guess. Her lips formed a perfect frown... I guess if this is the way she always sleep. But..... It is time to find the answers to all the 'why' s in my mind... Sherlock Holmes on work...
