"She said she saw Leah," Jace told Isabelle and Simon, as the three of them patiently awaited for Andrea to wake up after having received a transfusion.
"Leah? As in... our Leah?" Simon questioned, clearly taken by surprise by this.
"Do you think I would bring it up if it wasn't about her?!" Jace snapped, annoyed. "How does she even know her?"
"I don't know. Maybe she heard about her while being unconscious and thought she saw her when she was hallucinating?" Isabelle suggested.
"I don't know, Iz. The look on her face... She seemed sure enough about what she was saying."
"Jace, I'm the first person to want to believe that she isn't completely gone. But my parabatai rune disappeared. Leah is not coming back," Isabelle said, and Jace hadn't anticipated how much her words stung. "It's time that we let her go."
Jace was about to reply that there was no way he'd ever give up on her, but before he could argue anything else, they all turned their attention to Andrea, who'd just groaned and shifted on the bed, waking up from her deep sleep. Jace was the first to head over to her and offer her a glass of water, which she took gladly. "How are you feeling?"
"Like someone just tried to drain all the blood from my body."
"Well, that's kind of what happened." Simon said, making Jace give him a warning look. The vampire raised his hands defensively. "What? It's not like she doesn't know."
"There's just something I don't understand. What was Henry wanting to do with your blood?" Isabelle questioned, unaware that she was voicing the one thing everyone was wondering.
"I have no idea. He said he was working for someone, someone who wanted the blood of a Mundane with the Sight."
"That's an awfully specific blood type." Simon commented.
"Almost too specific. Sounds like someone's planning some sort of demonic ritual," Jace frowned. "But what kind of ritual needs Mundane blood?"
"I'll call Magnus up and ask him about it. Maybe he could point us into what kind of magic needs that kind of ingredient," Isabelle said, before briefly eyeing Andrea. "You should rest, alright? I'll come check up on you later."
Simon followed Isabelle out of the room, and Jace knew this would be his one shot at asking the very doubt that had been gnawing at the back of his mind ever since the encounter with Henry in the Seelie Realm. He cleared his throat, earning her attention.
"Andrea. Before you passed out, you mentioned... You mentioned you'd seen someone. Do you remember?"
"I... I think so," Andrea frowned, narrowing her eyes, trying to jog her memory. "Yeah. There was... a glow, and a lake. And her eyes..."
"You mentioned the name of someone, someone I knew," Jace continued, his heart beating faster by the second. "You said you saw Leah. Leah Rollins."
"I did. Yeah, it was her. Her green eyes are unmistakable," Andrea said, nodding.
"What do you mean, you saw her? Like... Did you actually see her back in the realm or..."
"Not exactly. It was... Like a dream. But it felt so real."
"Where do you even know her from?"
"She used to babysit me when I was younger," Andrea said. "I always liked her. I wonder what happened to her."
"She..." Jace tried to talk normally, but he couldn't stop his voice from cracking. "She passed away."
"Wait. You knew her? Does that mean..." Andrea started, and Jace nodded. "She was a Shadowhunter. Wow. That makes her slightly cooler than I remember."
