I heard Keith's phone vibrate from his pocket. He gave me an apologetic look as if to say that he probably had to take this call. I gave him a small smile and he proceeded to pull out his phone and answer the call. He looked at the caller ID and sighed.

I heard a high pitched voice from the other end-a girl's.

"Yes, I know Kaitlyn. I'll pick you up right after my interview. Date? I-I'm busy afterwards with- um things. No! No, I care about you Kaitlyn. Yeah, fine I'll take you shopping. Yeah bye Kaitlyn..."

He ended the call and looked at me.

"Sorry, that was my girlfriend Kaitlyn. She is a handful..."

I felt a twinge of jealousy. Wait-what? I just met this guy! How am I jealous that he has a girlfriend? Whatever.

"It's fine. She must be a lucky girl to have a boyfriend like you." What are you saying? I thought.

He smirked at me and raised his eyebrow "Are you calling me hot?"

I turned a violent shade of red "What-no! I didn't say anything like that!" I rambled. What are you saying? Stop making the situation worse! I thought. Of course things didn't get any better. "I mean-I'm not saying you are not hot-but-I-you know.."

He put his hand to my mouth to stop my inane rambling. "Hey it's okay. I was just joking." He said smirking again.

I tried to cover my face with my hair to hide my bright red face. "I knew that..." I said to somehow relieve the embarrassment.

Thankfully Ro decided to interrupt us before Keith could answer.

"Sorry to interrupt your little flirting session but we are here." She smirked at us.

I tried not to look too relieved "I should probably get going, thanks for the ride though." I said with a thankful smile. Then I opened the door and got out with my stuff.

"No problem Foster. I'll see you later?"

"Oh-uh sure."

"Cool, I'll see you later Foster" He said with a wink and they drove away.

I stood there for a couple extra seconds to comprehend what just had happened. He wants to hang out with me? Of all the people me? And he also gave me a nickname. 'I'll see you later Foster'. Foster. Maybe he just makes nicknames for all his friends. Wait, I'm his Friend? I shook these thoughts out of my head and decided to tackle them another time. I turned around and headed towards the large campus.

"Sophie Foster? Here is your schedule and your locker number. And if you are interested in any clubs, sports, or electives here is the form for that." The lady at the front desk had called my name after several minutes of waiting.

"That's me. Thank you by the way," I looked at her name-tag on her desk, "Ms. Rodriguez." I her gave a shy smile.

"No problem! Just know if you have any questions I'll be happy to answer them!"

I took the papers from the desk. "Actually," I felt some heat creep up my face from embarrassment , "Do you know where room 112 is?"

"Through that door, straight down that hallway, make a left and it's the first door on the right."

"Thank you!" I said quickly and hastily grabbed my stuff and started towards my Algebra class.

I grabbed the handle of the door and took a deep breath before I walked in.

The second I stepped in the room I felt eyes all on me. The teacher cleared his throat.

"Well she must be an attractive girl if everyone is staring at her." The teacher jokes. Most of the class looks away but some eyes still linger.

"So, who do we have here? A ditcher?" He says eyebrows playfully raised.

"Oh-I didn't mean to- I was,um late because of-" I started to have a mini breakdown right there.

"Whoa I was just kidding. Ms. Rodriguez had sent me an email saying you were going to be late. I'm Mr. Gray but I also go by Mahatma Gray. Why don't you take a seat next to Dexy over there." He points to a boy with strawberry blonde hair and a blue sweatshirt.

The boy glares at Mr. Gray. " My name is not Dexy it's Dex." He says through his teeth.

"He has mood so if he ever gives you a hard time just tell me and he will earn a new nickname."

I smile apologetically at Dex " I'm sure he's not that bad." I walk towards my desk and put my stuff near my chair. By this time Mr. Gray had gone back to lousily lecturing on Lesson 23 in our Math book.I was brought back to reality by Dex, who tapped my shoulder.

"Hi, I figured you are new here and you probably need a friend, so I'll be your first." He said with a grin.

"Really? You would like to be friends with me?"

"Yeah, Sure why not!"

This almost seemed like a foreign concept to me. I was never really social and I haven't been in this kind of environment before. Props to Caroline for that. Maybe High School isn't as bad as it sounds like.

Right?
