Makinde bounced into the house to join his buddies. Josh probed Makinde tirelessly about Ann when all Makinde wanted to do was school him in FIFA. Mayor and Cherish started kissing each other and Josh wasn’t having any of it.

“Get a room! Mayor…Gosh!!!” Josh downed the last pint of bourbon in his red party cup aimlessly throwing it at Mayor in an attempt to disrupt their romance.

“Don’t be jealous son!” Mayor said coyly lifting Cherish and rocking her on the way to his room.

Josh is the goofy gamer who loves playing Call of Duty. He never went out of his way to get laid. Makinde sat up to play FIFA with Josh who bluffed a lot, Makinde kept mulling over of visions of Ann and the climax of the sex with her.

Makinde took sips of Bourbon while he infiltrated the defense of the team Josh played with.

Makinde’s phone started vibrating, he paused the game and placed the controller on the Ottoman beside him. He narrowed his eyes on his phone to see ‘Ann P.H.’ on his caller ID. He motioned to Josh lower the volume of the T.V. set.

“Hello. Honey, you’re home now right?”

“Yeah I’m…..Home….But eh,” Ann let out a whimper of fear before pausing for a few seconds. Makinde couldn’t fathom why Ann was in distress.

“What’s the….”

“You’re not safe at home babe” Ann concluded incoherently interrupting Makinde.

“What’s the problem honey? What are you talking about?” He asked her looking baffled.

“My ex-husband saw the pictures of us at the park….Everything!!” Ann cried out.

“What the hell are you saying? You told me he moved out and you two don’t talk”

“I’m so sorry honey, so fucking sorry. He called me on my way back home saying something urgent came up so I went to his place. He snatched my phone from me and found them.” Ann mumbled.

Makinde was speechless and motionless for a few seconds.

“Are you there? Get the hell out of your house because he’s coming for you!!!! I’m so sorry baby.”

“What?!!!” Makinde exclaimed as he turned around to peep out the lounge window. The street was clear, nothing unusual.

“Did you fucking tell him where I live?” He asked bluntly.

“He hit me ceaselessly though I didn’t tell him anything.”

“Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!” Makinde yelled continuously then heard a long blip. Ann had hung up.

His heart began to beat like a snare drum. ‘What do I do?’ He wondered. Josh figured all wasn’t good.

“What’s the problem Mak?!” He enquired looking directly at him.

“Ann just told me her ex knows she…..we….. cheated.”

“Man, so what?” He replied whimsically.

“They’re divorced right?” Josh added.

“I swear that’s what I thought, now I’m thinking she lied.” Makinde retorted looking bewildered.

Makinde called Ann immediately. He didn’t hear her voice till dial tone played out. His face went pale thinking what if Ann was trying to play a prank on him.

‘I think I have gotten myself in more trouble than I can handle.’ Makinde thought aloud.

“Josh! What the fuck do I do?!” He yelled. Josh clearing his throat, croaked. “Fucking chill out man. Nothing will happen. If he finds you, I got you dog!”

Makinde wanted to believe him but he was uneasy because Josh’s diplomacy soon became satirical. Makinde sprang to his feet and dashed to his bedroom.

He stood lingering in front of his bedroom mirror looking at his reflection processing his scattered thoughts. It’s 6.10am, he discovered glancing at his phone and Ann hadn’t returned his call.

He peered into his driveway and Josh was there giving his Corolla a much deserved wash and then into the tranquil road. Shutting the window with an audible snap, he glared at his phone again and still no communication from Ann.

He tried to blurt out the panic in his mind; aimlessly swiping, opening and closing applications.

He thought to himself. ‘If I had deleted the pictures none of this would have happened.’

He couldn’t shake the feeling that something grim was looming. Shortly, Makinde was startled by the sound of roaring car engines then he rose swiftly and slightly shifted the blinds and the voices in his head screamed. ‘The jig is up!"
