When you and the boys arrived home, Bruce had already taken off, presumably to change into his Batman persona. You didn't dwell on it; he had his own battles to fight. You searched the house for your dad but quickly realized he was likely at work. Sighing, you guided the boys to the basement, a safe haven even though they disliked its dark, musty confines, especially without Dad around.

Their little faces were still etched with fear, but you had a plan to distract them. You pulled out the toys you'd bought, their eyes lighting up as you handed them over.

"Here, play with these," you encouraged softly.

They nodded hesitantly, the allure of new toys momentarily easing their anxiety. You turned on some music to mask the sounds of distant explosions and reassured them before slipping out to survey the situation from a safer vantage point.

Suited Up and Ready

From your bedroom window, you scanned the cityscape. Flames flickered in the distance, and sirens wailed, but the immediate vicinity seemed clear.

"Thank God..." you whispered, feeling a fleeting sense of relief.

With practiced efficiency, you donned your suit, slid out the window, and sped through the city's rooftops and alleyways. Arriving at the scene of the disaster, you noted Batman wasn't alone. Superman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern were also present, each engaged in managing the chaos. Their presence indicated the severity of the situation.

Twenty Minutes Later

The crisis, a massive fire that had consumed several buildings, was finally under control. The combined efforts of the heroes had prevented further devastation, and the last of the flames were being extinguished. As you were about to leave, Superman approached you.

"Uh, Nightingale!" he called out, his tone uncertain but respectful.

You turned to him, maintaining your stoic demeanor. Communication wasn't your strong suit, especially with anyone but Batman.

"Uh, you sure are quiet... but uh-" he began, only to be interrupted by Batman.

"Get to the point," Batman said, his tone as commanding as ever.

Superman straightened, "Y-yes! ahem Nightingale, how would you like to join the Justice League?"

You tilted your head slightly, curiosity piqued but expression neutral. Superman's nervousness was palpable, and to your surprise, even Batman seemed a bit more relaxed than usual.

"Uh, w-we think you would make a g-great hero!" Superman stammered.

"I'll think about it," you replied curtly, your tone leaving no room for further discussion.

Before you could leave, Batman placed a hand on your shoulder, his grip firm but not harsh.

"...?"

"Hey, tonight, when you're alone, I want to speak with you."

"How will you find me?" you asked, more out of curiosity than doubt.

"Heh, I always do," he replied with a smirk.

As his Batmobile rolled up, Batman executed a flawless backflip into the driver's seat, a clear display of his acrobatic prowess. You rolled your eyes, grappling away into the night, your mind already on the next task.

Back Home

Twenty minutes later, you returned home, having stowed away your suit in its hidden compartment. Your brothers were upstairs, their laughter mingling with the sound of the television. Your dad sat with them, his presence a comforting anchor. You slipped past them into the kitchen to start dinner. As you worked, your dad came up behind you, wrapping you in a warm hug.
