As you tapped away on your device, the sound of approaching footsteps echoed down the corridor, growing louder with each passing second. Your instincts kicked in, and you slipped into the shadows, your form blending seamlessly with the darkness. Batman, however, remained in the open, his stance relaxed yet exuding a palpable tension. This was a scene you had witnessed countless times before. The unfortunate soul approaching had no inkling of the impending encounter.
The instant the intruder's voice broke the silence, "Hey! It's the Bat!" Batman surged forward with the ferocity of a predator. His fist connected with the man's stomach in a precise, devastating blow, rendering him unconscious almost immediately. You let out a soft sigh, your fingers gliding through the air to dismiss the holographic screen you had been scrutinizing.
"Hmm..." you murmured under your breath, mentally piecing together the scattered clues about the Joker's whereabouts. Frustration tinged your sigh as you swiped the screen away entirely. Moving with the grace and silence of a shadow, you approached the door and turned the handle cautiously. Peering out, you found the corridor deserted, but Batman had already vanished. Sighing once more, you slipped through the door and began your ascent up the nearby wall with practiced ease.
From your high vantage point, you spotted Batman perched like a sentinel, his cape billowing slightly in the cool night air. You crept closer, careful to remain silent. Beneath you, the muffled sounds of voices reached your ears, a mixture of hushed whispers and the occasional barked order.
Patiently, you waited as Batman located and opened a hidden trap door. He unhooked his grappling gun, the line hissing as it shot out and anchored itself securely. With a fluid motion, he swung down into the darkness below. You remained in the shadows, your ears straining to catch every sound.
Suddenly, a blood-curdling scream shattered the night.
"Huh!?!? Ahhhh!"
Someone had been strung up, another victim of the Joker's twisted games. The commotion drew several of Joker's henchmen. One of them rounded the corner and found himself face-to-face with you. Without a moment's hesitation, you grabbed the back of his head and slammed it into the floor. The impact was brutal, and you were momentarily taken aback by the force of your own actions.
Before you could dwell on it, another voice called out, "Hey! It's the Nightingale!"
"Well, great..." you muttered under your breath, dropping into a combat stance. As the thug lunged at you, Batman appeared behind him, delivering a swift knockout blow with characteristic efficiency. The situation was escalating rapidly, and you knew things were about to get even messier.
(Two hours later)
The relentless fighting had left you exhausted, your muscles aching with each movement. Yet, you pressed on, driven by the need to find the Joker. An hour and a half had passed since you began the search, with no sign of the elusive villain. Frustrated, you scaled the side of a building, aiming for a window on the upper floors. Batman followed suit, his movements as fluid and silent as ever.
"You know I gave you a grappling hook and a zipline. Why are you always climbing?" Batman asked, a hint of amusement in his gravelly voice.
"I'm just so used to climbing, is all," you replied, a small smile tugging at your lips despite your exhaustion.
Without warning, Batman grabbed you, pulling you close to his chest. He aimed his grappling gun at the top of a nearby building, and the line shot out, yanking both of you upwards. Your heart raced from the sudden ascent, and you clung to him, feeling the powerful muscles beneath his suit. As you reached the rooftop, you couldn't help but marvel at his strength.
Once on solid ground, you playfully aimed a punch at Batman's head. He dodged it effortlessly, his reflexes as sharp as ever.
"What's your name?" he asked, his tone serious and probing.
"Nunya."
"Nunya who?"
"None of your business."
"Ha. Ha. Tell me."
"You don't scare me," you retorted, meeting his gaze with defiance.
Batman sighed, his frustration evident. It had been four months since you started fighting together, and he was no closer to uncovering your identity.
"Give me thirty minutes, and I'll find out who you are," you said confidently, a mischievous glint in your eye.
"Huh?" Batman looked genuinely puzzled.
Thirty minutes later, you called out his name, breaking the silence.
"Bruce Wayne."
Batman froze, shock and disbelief etched across his face.
"H-how did you know?" he stammered. He then grabbed your wrist and forced you to look at him.
You giggled, the sound light and carefree, echoing softly across the rooftop. With a playful grin, you grabbed your zipline and shot off into the night, leaving Batman to grapple with the revelation of his greatest secret. The wind whipped past you as you zipped through the city, the thrill of the moment mingling with the satisfaction of having outwitted the Dark Knight himself.
