Bird with a Sin

My skin burns
This sin which bathes me
Leaves me breathless and broken
But I cannot show it

White knuckles and heavy pants
My blood boils beneath my flesh
The sky is blue with a golden orb
A bird soars through the clouds

I wish I could fly
To simply leave and go wherever
Never needing to worry about a single thing
Spread my wings and go

Easier said than done
The impossible truly
But I can dream and, in my dreams
I am without sin

I am simply a bird
Soaring with my feathers in the breeze
Freedom on my shoulders
No responsibilities to tie me down

Just a single bird flying through the sky
No sins or worries
No threat of damnation
No fears of judgment or crucifixion

But I suppose if I were a bird
I wouldn't be that lucky
In a cage I'd be in
Locked and hidden away from prying eyes

Singing my sweet lullaby in hushed tones
Wishing to reach the blue tapestry above
Surrounded by iron
Surely that'd be what would be

Because I am in a cage
Metaphorically bind by chains to the floor
The same old scenes and the same old faces
The same old tune and the same old sin

I'm just a bird with a sin
