Chapter 5
“Kate, did you hit him in the eye?” Mom questioned as I put on a fake smile. “Why did you hit him in the eye?” She went to Cody and looked at his swollen eye and then turned back to me.
“It’s called self-defence; I thought he was gonna rob me.” I played with my hands nervously; I haven’t had a guy back home ever since Jake left. Mom should be so proud. “Well, to be honest, I didn’t know who he was at first because after I punched him, he was covering his eyes and crying like a baby.” I said almost bursting out of laughter.
“We’ll talk about this later.” She said sternly. “Come on, I’ll help you with your eye.” She grabbed his arm and walked to the kitchen leaving me and Jasmine alone in the hallway.
After mom helped Cody with his eye, he was still unable to drive so I drove him home. I think my mom liked him a lot, I guess it must be his good looks and he was like the second guy I had ever invited to my home.
Cody was giving me directions to his home but I kept going the wrong way, maybe it’s because I hardly drive, I don’t have a car and I just got my license and besides that, he was a terrible navigator.
“Go left!” He yelled sounding angry and frustrated at the same time. I groan as he was complaining, that’s it, I am never sitting in a car with him, he was so impatient, there was a part of me that wanted to slap his face and make him cry again. “I SAID GO LEFT!!”
“WHY ARE YOU SCREAMING AT ME?!” I yelled making him quiet. I couldn’t take it anymore; I’d rather he drove him with only one eye. I mean what if we’re married and he’s always that impatient, whoa, wait. Married? I guess it must be either my angry side or my ‘I’m freaking tired, leave me alone!’ side.
I sigh in relief when I parked in his driveway and got out of his car. His house was huge, it was a mansion. He was stuck up and snobby, I guess, judging by how bossy he was. He asked if I was going to be okay walking to the bus stop alone and I nodded and started to get further away from him before he asked me to come inside.
