vi. | STILL NOT BITTEN.

BREATHING HEAVILY, Eden sat down with her back against the wall of the shed. This movement alone had already taken her so much effort that she could hear her pulse pounding in her ears and forced herself close her eyes as the world began to revolve around her. In the meantime, Clementine took a look around the shed, her eyes slowly adjusting to the darkness, to check if there was anything useful around.

Eden hated feeling like this. So Goddamn helpless. She wasn't able to help or comfort Clementine with anything but her words.

"Not much left in here... " Clementine spoke up as she found a box that looked like it had been taken on fishing trips. Picking up a thread, she held it up for Eden to see and asked, "Do you think we can use these for stitches?"

"As long as it's clean, it should be fine." With a weak smile blossoming on her cracked lips, Eden praised, "Good job, Peaches."

Uncertain, she looked down at her shaking hands. Eden wasn't sure if she would be able to stitch up Clementine's wound when it would come down to it but she didn't want to alarm the girl just yet so she kept quiet.

"I understand why they did it," Clementine's small voice broke the silence after some time.

Eden looked up at the sound of her voice and spotted her friend looking through a barrel to her left. Not knowing what she was referring to, Eden quirked a brow and let out a questioning, "Hm?"

"Why they locked us up in here," Clementine elaborated and turned around since she couldn't find anything useful inside the barrel. "I think, ... I would have done it, too, if someone else would be a danger to us."

Disagreeing, the older girl shook her head lightly. "That's no reason to just lock us up in here," she reasoned, anger lacing her voice. Clementine knew her anger wasn't directed towards her. She was angry at the group for denying Clementine the aid she so desperately needed. With a sigh, she added, "Not when—Not when there's a little girl who needs help."

As if she only heard the last part of her words, Clementine narrowed her eyes at Eden and retorted, "I'm not a little girl."

Eden smiled at that. "You are little and you are a girl — fits the description for me," she teased. "This gives you an advantage so often, it's not necessarily a bad thing."

"It's a bad thing when no one takes you seriously 'cause you're just a kid," Clementine declared. Thinking of all the countless times people had given her this certain look or even said it caused for the girl to huff in annoyance. After all the things she had seen and had to do — how could she still be a kid?
