Images of my father continue to haunt my waking hours as well as plague my sleeping ones-with what little time I did attain. I know that my cousins also wake during the night, having heard Kenzie wear herself out thumping punching bags, Erina occupy herself with her piano and Fillan toss and turn until he fell from his bed onto the floor.
It seems as if we are all waiting for a cypher to decode our dreams, our visions that I suppose are intended to aid us in our coming of age and progression into adulthood. I find myself as I am now sitting amongst the journals and sketches of my parents hoping that I somehow missed some sliver of information that could unravel and elucidate everything I see behind closed eyelids. It took my mother quite a long time to piece everything together, but I don't think I have the patience, nor the time to wait to miraculously piece it together. Truthfully, I long for my mother to visit, knowing that she will be home soon-but not specifically. Soon could be within a year for my mother, she had already been way four. My mother had glimpsed the future, she would be able to help me unravel the past, and she had to, because I didn't know what I was going to if she couldn't.
Today we will convene with The Ministry for the Supernatural, I don't know what to expect, I hope that-
There was a knock on my door and I set down my pen. "Come in." I beckoned.
"I was told to give you this." Fillan strode into my bedroom with a pile of neatly folded clothes in hand. Fillan himself was looking very dapper in a black and red suit, his family emblem sewn into the breast pocket.
"They've made a million James Bond movies, but none with a red head as the star. I think you should get into showbiz." I gestured to his outfit and slicked hair.
"Gingers are unattractive, that's why there are no sperm donors with red hair." He was still in a foul mood, conveyed through his taut tone and tired eyes.
"Well." I closed my journal and made my way to the clothes he had dumped on the end of my bed. "I think you could lead the way for the return of the hot gingers." I unfolded the clothes to lay my hands on the fine silk of a suit not that different from Fillan's, only in a navy blue and with gold embellished into the cuffs and collar. I was suddenly reminded of my mother's mixed irises in blue and gold. Soon...soon she would be home.
"Thanks for the suit."
"Don't thank me, thank my father." He left my room with his fists shoved into the pockets of his black trousers.
I briefly showered before slipping into the suit that was very pleasing to touch. I buttoned up the blazer in the mirror before smoothing out a few non-existent creases. I hoped I looked responsible enough for a creature with the blood that the Ministry had fought effectively to eliminate. I needed them to like me; I needed to make a good impression so I didn't just dampen my own reputation, but my dear mother's.
I released a tense breath before heading out to meet my family by the portal. April and Alick were decked out in full regalia, in matching colours of red, gold and black. April wore a floor length, heavy looking crimson dress trimmed with gold, accompanied by a cloak pinned by lapels at her shoulders that swept the floor behind her. The metal and jewels of her crown shimmered under the lights, alike the smaller version on Alick's head. His suit was covered with various sewn depictions of both Werewolves and Vampires, a symbol of the family's faith in peace and coexistence.
Fillan now wore his Princely crown and Erina and Kenzie wore their delicate Princess tiaras. Erina wore a floor length garnet coloured dress that fanned out around her feet and had rather long ruffled sleeves. Her light red hair had been coiled into ringlets and pinned back, leaving two strands out before her ears. She looked like a younger version of her mother. Kenzie wore a stark red and black dress that bared her shoulders and fell to the floor. Her chocolate brown hair was pinned half up half down in natural waves. I didn't think I was the only one to notice the dark bags just visible beneath her layers upon layers of foundation and concealment-or whatever it was called.
