I could barely contain my laughter at the chaos that was unfolding before my eyes. Nobody had a clue why most of the Byrne children and Cullen had fallen into a sleep like death, akin to that of sleeping beauty herself.
I met Erina's flaming blue eyes from across the room, her expression threatening to expose what little she knew about me.
I beckoned her over with my own eyes and she caught on, being the intelligent girl she was.
"You might want to jump back into a swimsuit." She was lucky I was giving her advice.
"If you're behind this-" She assumed the impossible.
"-I am trying to help you." I stepped forward to whisper in her ear. "Unless you want to test out those little arms of yours with a shovel, I suggest you remove yourself from the company of those you love."
"Once this is over, I'm getting answers." Erina reminded me of her mother.
I watched her leave the room before returning my eyes to the comedy of a Queen's confusion.
Cullen
'What on earth?' I reopened my eyes to find myself standing in a world of darkness, my pain completely gone. All around me was darkness, an empty space that stretched on forever. I knew I wasn't standing in a real place for I could still see, even though there was no source of light, the place defied the laws of nature.
'The King sends his regards, young traveller.'
I turned around to see a hooded figure standing in pit black armour, his facial features shrouded in darkness.
'Who are you?' I questioned, my voice echoing in the cavernous space.
I heard faint wheezing and I turned to my left to see Fillan had appeared, his body tied to a chair with bulky chains and thorns. His head was dipped low in unconsciousness, his pale skin spotted with bloody gashes and bruises.
'Fillan.' Fear began to creep its way inside my veins. 'Why did you do this?' I returned my eyes to mysterious hooded figure.
'He is unworthy.' The figure spoke simply.
'What?' I didn't understand how Fillan had warranted such cruelty.
'Prepare yourself, to be tested by the flames of Hell.'
I took a step back in apprehension to fall through whatever floor I had been standing on and into the jaws of a three-headed Hellhound.
For what felt like years I underwent every method of death and torture known to supernatural-kind. I was drowned, shot, burnt and stoned. But it was the verbal abuse that hurt the most, words of hatred and disappointment pouring from the mouths of those I loved.
I found myself standing before my father's grave, the hellish surroundings morphing to the sweeping landscape of my Scottish homeland.
'You're trying to test me.' I kept my eyes focused on the disturbed earth. 'I won't let you hurt me or my family.' I used my brief moment of peace to formulate a plan, based on what I had read of my mother's teenage life. 'Take me to Donn.'
For a second nothing happened, then the scenery melted away to walls of brimstone, crushed skulls and lava.
Fillan appeared to my right, still wrapped in chains and Erina appeared to my left, her skin and hair glowing orange in the darkness.
Erina and I looked ahead of us at the same time to see Donn, God of the Dead and King of the Celtic Underworld residing upon a formidable throne of death. His red eyes stared at us through the darkness, along with several other sets in the recesses of the room.
